Photographer’s Note

"The World's Shortest Railway" – 298 ft – 1 minute – 25 cent.

I've implemented an idea, inspired by a comment from Porteplume. I've performed Transform/Scew in PS at the lower right corner of the image, so that the gutter was parallel to the lower edge. Then I cropped out that (disturbing) part, without getting the framing too tight to the lower gate. This also "straightens" the lower gate.

This funicular railway is situated in downtown Los Angeles, running between Hill Str opposite Grand Central Market (fascinating place) and up the Bunker Hill to California Plaza Watercourt (more posh area) on top of Olive Str. It was built 1901 and operated till the late 1960s, when it was dismantled for "later use". And in 1995 it was rebuilt at the present location and opened in 1996 – only to be closed again after an accident on February 1, 2001 that killed one person and injured seven. It will probably reopen during 2004.
