This is a large male "bull" elk. I shot this at the Portland Oregon Zoo, but they are quite common in our area. I have seen a large herd just North of my home, although they didn't stick around long enough to get a good shot of them.

Excellent shot!

Hi Julie,
nice capture of this elk, and as it was at a zoo...it would be less interesting, because things like the fence in the back dont really add to the 'wildreness'..nice colors though, it may have been more interesting if it wasnt so centered and more of the surroundings were included. The picture is sharp with good lighting, good job..

Hi Julie. If that fence wasn’t there you could have lied to us and said you were in the woods! :) The shot is good because of the stance of the elk and how we can see his eyes. Nice one Julie!
