Photographer’s Note

Just when I was looking for a way to add a bit of interest tothis view of NOrth Conway station, this kid ran across the icy tracks. Just after lunch on a cold but sunny January Saturday it was -10 deg (displayed on the town hall, which I guess in the US must mean F) at midday.

oh, this one for sure looks like being taken in the beginning of the previous century; and that extreme grain rules this mini-series (and i am so sorry you mentioned it was the last one);
one thing though surprised me a lot - 10 am and already after lunch? was it liquid lunch, richard?

Lovely, Richard, a little timeless and positively dripping with nstalgia. I can't help thinking that even in 1980 '25 years ago) the States was a better country than it is now...
This is very nice work indeed.

I agree - it does seem such a nostalgic image - catching the little guy running makes the picture for sure - just that point of interest that pulls all the rest into a purpose - nice one!.

Had any more thoughts about today?

Excellent timeless feel to this shot, like Francis writes, with which I totally agree... a shot that could have been taken, for that matter, at the turn of the last century, with its lovely grain and sepia. Very well composed,

A superb b&W image with good sepia, sharpness & tonal range. I like the linear perspective of the train on a diagonal axis & the curving railway track. The running boy adds dynamism. Good work!

Excellent setting and postwork for this one Richard. The harsh light and strong contrast adds a good final touch in this presentation, and of course the boy a great 'add on' detail. Good work as in 1980 and 2005..

Yes, the -10 degrees would have been Fahrenheit. That was one bitter cold day for you up in North Conway!

I really like the kid running across the tracks. His presence adds a nice story to your composition: what is he running from or to. A lovely, nostalgic image.

Good morning Richard,
a nostalgic shot; use of B&W makes the picture considerably older! Railway carriages have a kind of 'western' touch.
