I took this picture last night inside Houston’s 131,000-square-foot Astrodome where refugees have been relocated from Superdome in New Orleans, Louisiana. These children are among the "lucky" one of the 25,000 victims who were fortunate enough to survive the tragic Hurricane Katrina and to make it to Houston. Although they have been given some things they haven't had for days — cots, running water and air-conditioning — they still have to confront the entire effect of being displaced. At this moment, they have to deal with infinitive psychological disturbance rather than the question about future, while the horrible past is their current wound and loss.

Based on early reports, we understand that Hurricane Katrina has seriously impacted many people and families. Our deep sympathy and heartfelt concern go out to all of the victims of this terrible disaster. When a disaster of the magnitude of Hurricane Katrina strikes and the news broadcasts images of broken, battered and destroyed homes, it is natural for the public to be eager to help their neighbors — whether they’re across town or across the country. The first priority is meeting the urgent, critical needs of nearly 42,000 which include providing emergency shelter, food and water.
You can help the victims of this disaster by making a financial gift to the American Red Cross Disaster Relief Fund, which enables the Red Cross to provide shelter, food, counseling and other assistance to those in need. Call 800-HELP NOW. Contributions to the Disaster Relief Fund may be sent to your local American Red Cross chapter or to the American Red Cross, P. O. Box 37243, Washington, DC 20013. Internet users can make a secure online contribution by visiting www.redcross.org.

Thank you, Ngoc-Son, for self-assigning yourself into this humanitarian path.
Walking through this alley, you would lose (time & cost of gasoline and the $10.00 fee for Astrodome parking lot) and the refugees may receive something if someone makes a quiet donation to the Red Cross.

Your capture is great, NgocSon. The face of the older sister makes the picture. Her expression tells the hidden story of the last few days of her life. It's hard to believe American children getting into this type of aldult's anxiety...

You said in your intro that you are young. I guess you are even younger than my children. For this, I must ask them to think about your contribution.

As a photo-journalistic picture this is excellent. Full of emotion.

In looking the two girls, I can't help but think what kind of situation they've been left in, it's tragedy on a massive scale.

Hello Son, your photograph reflects all the distresses of the victims of this disaster.
In the empty glance of this little girl one can read all the distress of these people in these so difficult moments, which they will have of the evil to erase of their memory.
This photograph which is better than thousand words, then don't forget that the REDCROSS, call with the gifts in the more-share of the countries of the world like here in France, think of this little girls with all the victims of this terrible drama, thank you.
