Photographer’s Note
I took this photo at an old mill in North Georgia called Nora Mill. The mill is a large four-story building that was built in 1876 complete with 1,500 pound French Burr Mill Stones and a 100 ft. wooden raceway that feeds water to a water turbine - not a vertical water wheel. The mill was constructed in 1876 by John Martin when he came to Georgia to mine for gold. Unlike most miners, Mr. Martin made Sautee-Nacoochee Valley his permanent home.
In 1905 Lamartine Hardman, a former governor of Georgia, bought the mill and named it "Nora Mill" in memory of his sister Nora. Nora Mill remained in the Hardman Family until 1998, when it, along with 300 surrounding acres, was purchased by a group of investors.
Nora Mill Granary is a fully operational grist mill that sits alongside the Chattahoochee River in the foothills of the North Georgia Mountains that stone grinds and produces all kinds of corn and wheat based products such as grits, corn meal, pancake & waffle mixes, flours, biscuit & bread mixes.

Georgia looks so much more exciting than Mississippi is. Great shot, beautiful place. The picture just seems a little soft, is it one of your scanned photos? Still, your framing and colors look great in the photo. Nice shot.

Hi Alli, this is a wonderful photo. I like the scene and the phhoto is rich in detail and colour. The stream is nicelyplaced to guide you into the shot.

wow. I have to say first that you have a real good eye for putting dramatic elements together. Nice balance and I love the foggy setting. Great shot. I am from BC Canada..and I post alot of shots from the Fraser Valley..

Hi Alli. Wow, you are certainly getting some mileage out of these older photos. There is real ambience here, evocative of much history and perhaps hard living. I love these old mills and your rendering resembles an old postcard in a fashion. Very soft tones and mood here. I like the way in which the trees angle and the lighter tones in the background. The stream of course draws the eye into the scene nicely. I only wish you had framed it. What a great capture and also a tribute to both your scanner and PP work. Best regards.

Hi Alli, i've been missing your latest posts in TE... shame on me ;)
I will recover though... starting with this one, i like the mood, the mysticism of this place... maybe because the colours.
Very well done.

It's a very beautiful scene, although the photo has an unreal quality about it, like a painting or something, probably due to the scanning process. It would make a good jigsaw puzzle!
