Photographer’s Note

I took this photo during a professional baseball game on Saturday. The photo was taken at Turner Field, the former Olympic Stadium, and was of the Atlanta Braves playing Baltimore. It was my 4-year-old and 2-year-old daughters' first baseball game. The temperature was around 90 degrees and it was really humid. The girls enjoyed their first game nonetheless. The Braves eventually won in the bottom of the 9th inning with a home run, 5-4.

I called this picture Field of Dreams because the Braves, despite winning the division championship every year for the last 11, have only won the World Series once, in 1995.

The photo was cropped. I had trouble sharpening it because of the mesh net. The net is there to protect spectators from 100 mph balls. We had 22nd row seats behind home plate - the best tickets I have ever had!

P.S. Last night a 46-year-old Braves player, Julio Franco, hit a grand slam (4 runs in with a home run), bringing the Braves another victory. He is the oldest player ever to do so. You're only as old as you feel!!!

I don't understand basebal, I've gone to a few games and still remain very confused despite the atmpts of my friends and father in law in trying to educate me. But for some reason I like your baseball photo.
The action is great with the ball in the air the throwing guy in mid action and the other ready to hit it. You stopped time so very well. The green of the grass and the red of the dirt give it a real graphic feel and the pelple in the backround are great with splashes of color.

Well done, great composition too and I think the sharpness is good.

Nicely caught - I mean bowled Alli - great to get the ball midway to the striker - I like the strong horizontals, colours , the screen of the net - all make this such an interesting image - one of your best I think - very nice!

the colors are at top levels! and the protection netgive a great effect at all the picture.
...for the rest i really don't know anything about Baseball.
in Italy, but also in the rest of the whole Europe is completely unknow!

The colors and the contrasts are great. I regret the net, but I suppose you can't avoid it.

WOW!!!

I LOVE BASEBALL.
I AM FROM OREGON ( live in UK now) and unfourntunatly we dont have a major league team but I often went to mariners games ( when they were worth it)

I saw this picture and KNEW i had to critique!
My boyfriend is british and when i read that they won in the bottom of the ninth with a homer... he didn't understand my excitment!!

Hope your girls did enjoy it, for it is, American's favourite pass time! ;)

Hi Alli,
I have choosen this one from your collection to compliment you. What a good captured moment of the baseball game! It reflects perfectly well the atmosphere which is so characteristic by these events.
All the action is there. You can "feel" the uppermost concentration of the catcher, the bats man and the referee. The net is not disturbing at all to my opnion. Good work!
