Photographer’s Note

“Once you have flown, you will walk the earth with your eyes turned skywards, for there you have been, and there you long to return.”
- Leonardo da Vinci (1452-1519)

Launching a paraglider can require running to generate enough airspeed so that the wing will fly. Unless the wind is strong enough that the running is not necessary. Then you can literally step into the air, let up on the brakes, and fly away.

This lucky pilot has stepped into the sky and is ready to fly away. There is nothing on earth to match the feeling of flying like this. It is as if you have sprouted wings and can join the birds, soaring above the ground.

Point of the Mountain, near Salt Lake City, Utah, is one of the best places to catch the perfect wind and soar with the birds. Pilots come from near and far to participate in this growing sport.
