Nice shot, very sharp. I would like to know how far you were from the subject. I know that you were close and using your flash, but the overexposure on the tail and leaf might be able to be taken out through your editing software. I say might because my editing software is really a poor edition and doesn't do the things I would like it to. Maybe some other members will comment on this for you.

Worth to try using speedlight SB80 to allow more DOF, and you got nice result. How did you use SB80 in this case. Is the white on tail effect of using the flash? Thanks for sharing your technique and photo. (I suppose to give point here, but I see no point option here)

Wonderfully sharp capture of head and upper body, good use of DOF. The tail looks a little over exposed, but not too much so, as I think the original colour should be a light, dusty blue. I cannot ID the species with any exactitude, as I don't think we've got it in Denmark. Closest match is the Orthetrum cancellatum, but according to the book this species has brown eyes - which is clearly not the case here. Another relative might be the Libellula fulva, which also has powdery blue, but the fulva species has black markings on the wingtips, and I cannot see any markings on this chap.

nice sharp capture possibly you could of used the flash at a lower level so as to not blow-out the tail, having got the pic things to do with it, the tail can be darkened by using the burn tool set at a low level 15 - 20% and soft brush, the out of focus wing tip use sharpen tool @ 30 - 40 % again soft brush only on the tips, then an overal Unsharp mask.
Looking at where you are in florida i recon it must be a tropical type which we dont see up north ;0((#
