Photographer’s Note
Ecola state park is one of the more exciting places in Oregon coast, especially for photographers.
This scene already looks like a painting. I tried to take it to the next step and make a water color painting from it. It would be interesting to hear some feedback, especially which one is nicer – the photo or the painting?

The painting gives a strongest personal interpretation but the picture is not bad :) The fench in foreground gives the idea of great deep and also if the time you took this picture is not the best for the light I like the final result with the great energy coming from the right with the power of waves and the almost silhouettes of mountains in background that give me a oniric sensation

They're both pretty good really. Now painting, there's a skill I really envy. One happy face for each, if I could. What a beautiful place.

I think you are an excellent photographer and not so bad painter, this photo is an excellent example of what I'm saying. I find this pic impressive, very well capture, the foreground fence and the sea in the right with the mountains in the backgroud covered with this splendid mist give us a beautiful composition.

Great shot Efi;
I love the composition. I really like the layering effect of the land in the far distance...
Nicely done.

Hi Efrat,
What a nice picture, I liked the angle choosed for this picture.
The woods in the backgroun are making a nice composition.
Regarding your question about what is better, I frankly thing that the painting is awesome and very profesional done.
You may consider to print them in a canvas paper :)

Hi Efi, Stunning picture, the way you lead us into the photo, using the fence is very well seen, evereything else behind it, gets dimmer and dimmer, beautiful layers this way, and the rocks scattered everywhere, are simply beautiful. The haze is VERY nice. Nice colors as well.

Believe,Efi,I was thinking that I create a painting just a water color as WS and then post it for you,but in the time I read your note,...and I saw you did it,I'm wondering about the same think here:)
You did great in painting version,Efi!
It's because of the shot and the view that you captured in that special mood,a kind light which helps me(us) to imagine about a dreamy painting like it,but I think the shot is Painting itself, and our eyes like this playing with light.
in fact,I believe that it return to our soul,Human pure soul, which absorbs an attractive natural things around specially in this modern days.
in point of tech, the shot is strong, great POV,depth, colors and contrast you managed and reached nicely and composition is very nice.
I like it very much,Efi !
thanks
Sincerely
M

Hi Efi,
For sure a beautiful landscapes, I like here your overlooking PoV and the succession of hill ranges that together with the coastal line give a lot of depth. The sea adds the dynamism and the remaining fog the misty touch, still there is also excellent light and clarity, definitely a great shot of yours !
As for the question... well you for sure have water color painting talent, but I find this photo so beautiful I go for it with no doubt !
Have a nice day,

Hello Efi
no one is nicer, the twice are very very beautiful. The photo seems to be easier to do, but you get a nice light, and everybody say it's difficult ! The paint is difficult to do, but after looking at, i mean it seems to be easy for you !
The twice bring differents feelings ...
I like the way you frame your compo (the twice !), and the succession of plan of this landscape.
Best regards, hugues

With watercolours it's hard - if not impossible - to get that amazing light, that transforms the scenery in a fairy landscape. The transparency, the fine tones of the colours get lost. NO, nothing against your painting talent, please don't missunderstand!
The inclusion of the lightened fence, with the same "curve" as the breaking wave, gives depth, makes the compo very good.
Very well done! Both of them - but I like the photo more

Yes, it is a excelent one. There is a nice balance in all the rocks here in the photo and also this foreground is well come.
Colors give this effect of "a nice painting".
I like it

Both are nice in their own right, Efi. The painting does a fine job of abstracting and isolating the graphical potential of this view, while the photo is better in atmosphere and the rendition of the light and haze effects. A fine composing with the wooden fence in the foreground, and the scattered rocks reaching into the water. Great effect with the hills subtly merging with the haze towards the back.

Photo ou tableau ? Peu importe finalement car ce panorama est de toute beauté, les montagnes baignées par cette légère brume sont splendides et quel effet avec cette barrière en premier plan, et puis quelle magnifique luminosité. Félicitations !

Hi Efi :)
The composition work is excellent. The fence combined with the layers of mountains and rocks give a great depth to this shot. I like also the vaporous touch of the sprays in the backdrop. That reinforces again the magical atmosphere of this beautiful place. Well done, Efi. I miss sea now!
PS : I must admit I prefer your photo. But the layers of colors are greatly highlighted by your paint effect in your alternate post processing ...I'm waiting for your work with the D70, Efi ;)

La photo est très belle et le voile de lumière participe autant que l'emplacement et le cadrage à cette image d'une grande finnesse.
Je préfère la photo : néanmoins il serait bon de la faire en aquarelle si vous savez utiliser ce procédé.

Hi Efi,
It's such a challenge to use the tools of photoshop and experience with your pics. The results are mostly amazingly nice. But like Pixelterror also said: on this site one prefers photos. Like your next pic I love this scenery and this one has an even better compo, I think. CU, Erik

Very good POV. The combination of the hand-rail in the foreground together with the fading of the different levels of mountains Works perfectly to enhance the sense of distance. Also like the very soft atmosphere created by your experiments. Great place.

Hi Efi,
this is a very, very nice sea's view! Excellent compo, as pov and proportions with the fence in foreground. For my taste, i prefere the photo. The picture is a different matter, is like a dream, i like the "immersion" in the realty that is possible with the photo! (even this is a dream, i don't know if i will ever visit Oregon!!)
Really an excellent work, photo & picture, compliments!

This is a very beautiful photo with very good light and composition. I believe that the fence and the way it's lighted makes this photo great. I also liked your color painting although I believe it needs more colours. I prefer the photo!

Hi Efi,
Really stunning picture of this breathtaking landscape. If I was there, I would have probably taken two picture, as you did one with the fence and one without.
The watercolor looks like a genuine one
I was wondering if it was made with some computer program ?
keep well - Izzet

Très beaux contrastes de bleus. La brume, en arrière-plan, renforce le mystère de cette côte déchiquetée par la longue érosion océanique. Magnifique !
