Photographer’s Note
You might say this is my Ansel Adams tribute shot. I originally had this shot in color but was not happy at all with the colors. I tried changing it to b/w and liked the results. The lake is Lake Granby and the snow-capped peaks in the distance are in Rocky Mountain National Park. Lake Granby was formed by damming the Colorado River. This was taken in September, so the foreground is not snow, but wildflowers. B/W photography is still new to me so I’m up for suggestions.

For a first trial in B&W, this is quite good. The difficulty with B&W is to have a palette of all levels of grey, i.e. not only black and white. You did it.

Bonjour Stephen,
Les contrastes sont parfaits pour donner une très bonne photo en noir et blanc.
L'on a tendance à oublier cette possibilité de N&B, alors qu'elle peut donner une vision différente.
J'aime beaucoup.
Very well done.

Hi Stephen, This photo does not match the style of your other photos. I like your new style as well. It is a picture perfect sky with snowy mountains and the high altitude lake. Well done.

Hi Stephen. The vast and scenic landscape of RMNP certainly lends itself to this kind of presentation, with the panoramic format and the b&w. Personally, I have the feeling that it could do with a little less sharpness and a deemphasizing of the brightness. The contrast is very good though. Not bad, keep on trying a couple more b&w ones.

Your choice for B&W here is very good! The contrast is great! Especially the clouds are beautiful and I like the composition! Well done!

Hi Stephen,
A unusual sky with clouds, the B/W picture give not all lovely details, but I find these photo extraordinarily because of specially light, I not see a pity for the colour of the flowers on the foreground, but a beautiful composition.
Greetings,
John.

Good work, Stephen! I like the strong constrasts and the b and w colours, it makes the clouds even more dramatic. But I think you have sharpened a bit too much (and the foto is also a bit tilt/falling to the right). But I like this photo very much anyway.

Hi Stephen, I think this is a good bw shot. The sky is dramatic and there are diff textures to the ground. But I do think that it's a little oversharpened and it needs something of interest in the foreground (maybe some sort of vegetation?).
Have you had a chance to check out Richard's (merpb) gallery? He's one of the (if not the) best bw landscape photographer on TE.
Cheers!

Good experience and resulting composition in these scenery very sharpned. A little tilt from the right side, I suppose, but not so important! As usual a great photo.
Congratulations.

A good B&W shot, I agree with Norbert and Alex it is perhaps a little too sharp. Anyway the sky is great with these highly contrasting clouds and the field textures in the foreground are quite nice.

Hi Stephen!
This is a succesful experiment. The clouds are very plastic and vivid by high contrasts. I like it - well done!

Hi Stephen. A very effective B&W shot. The contrast between the billowing clouds and the dark hills helps make this shot work for my eyes. My only criticism would be slight overexposure of the large clouds toward the top of the frame. The POV is good, and the little channel or inlet of the lake in the foreground provides enhancement. Overall, this tribute shot is indeed a success.
