Photographer's Note

San Francisco

Yesterday my father (alvaraalto) dared to post a photo from Tallinn, a similar one to a photo, he knew, I had prepared. So just to annoy him (and as we say in Dutch, to "mow the grass in front of his feet", just like he did with me), I would like to present a similar view of quite a different city.

It's a view of the magnificent city of San Francisco, seen from Coit Tower. The most prominent buildings that can be disovered here are the Transamerica Pyramid, the tallest skyscraper in SF (853ft/260m) and 555 California Street (formerly Bank of America Center), the darker tower to the right of the Pyramid. Both are located in the Financial District of SF.
On the left hand side you can see just one of the four towers of the west span of the San Francisco-Oakland Bay Bridge, opened in 1936, six months before that other famous SF bridge. The little tower just in front of the bridge is part of the San Francisco Ferry Building, located on The Embarcadero, the terminal for ferries travelling across San Francisco Bay.

Coit Tower is a 210ft (64m) tall tower built in 1933. On top of Telegraph Hill (275ft/84m), it offers a great view of the city and the surrounding Bay Area.

Hope you like this photo and thanks for your visit!
