Yesterday my father (alvaraalto) dared to post a photo from Tallinn, a similar one to a photo, he knew, I had prepared. So just to annoy him (and as we say in Dutch, to "mow the grass in front of his feet", just like he did with me), I would like to present a similar view of quite a different city.
It's a view of the magnificent city of San Francisco, seen from Coit Tower. The most prominent buildings that can be disovered here are the Transamerica Pyramid, the tallest skyscraper in SF (853ft/260m) and 555 California Street (formerly Bank of America Center), the darker tower to the right of the Pyramid. Both are located in the Financial District of SF.
On the left hand side you can see just one of the four towers of the west span of the San Francisco-Oakland Bay Bridge, opened in 1936, six months before that other famous SF bridge. The little tower just in front of the bridge is part of the San Francisco Ferry Building, located on The Embarcadero, the terminal for ferries travelling across San Francisco Bay.
Coit Tower is a 210ft (64m) tall tower built in 1933. On top of Telegraph Hill (275ft/84m), it offers a great view of the city and the surrounding Bay Area.
Hope you like this photo and thanks for your visit!

San Francisco is natuurlijk een "big city with a lot sky scrapers"
Het valt op dat we de stad in drie delen moet opsplitsen, allen al door de kleur van de wijken
Heel mooi samengesteld met de brug in de achtergrond.
Prachtig foto werk Lars.
Goede gedaan bedankt.

Great view! Well, I also like this point of view to San Francisco. Perfect DoF, excellent graphic of the buildings. I really love this city. Although, I love LA more ;)

Hi Lars, great view of this great city, where you can see the tall buildings where they start, very well captured with great pov in this great and beautiful picture. An interesting image of an interesting city, good sharpness, depth, light, color and quality. A great job well done, congratulations my friend. Thanks for sharing this beautiful work.
Good night and happy weekend.
Warm greetings from southern Spain.

I guess it is a good response to your father's post. :-) You were in a real vintage point, as the view is gorgeous. And so is the light, clarity and the compo you chose.
Regards, TFS, José.

a very attractive presentation of such an interesting cityscape, a city with a unique character. I like very much the elevated point of view and the perspective that's allowed you to include two stunningly different aspects of the city, as well as the sea and the iconic bridge. You achieved marvelous definition on details and colours. The other day I was reading an article about the changes the city is going through due to the establishment or transfer of super companies there. Your picture would make a great illustration. Congratulations and thank you!
All the best, have a good night,

Your note made me laugh, still competing quarreling with your father?
Anyway this capture is original, my idea, showing contrast between houses and all towers and the famous bridge at the very back
My prefer building is the tower of the ferry Building
Wood work, congrats

With a city as big as this and from a tower that it is impossible to move, you have done a remarkable job of creating a very interesting composition. The low rise buildings make a fine prelude to the high rise buildings, revealing the diversity of the city.
I am glad that you have shown us the bridge, since this reveals the city's relationship with the sea.
The details have been sharply captured so that we, who are unfamiliar with the city, can gain a clear impression.
Is the city, visible beyond the bridge, still part of SF or is it another city?
My warm regards,
emka (104268) 2014-08-15 14:37
Hi Lars, Funny story about dad and son :). But the result of it is gorgeous, what a view! I like the vie of Tallinn, was charming, but this is specatcular. Isn't it great that now it is possible to upload this big format? Superb shot.
Now four first critiques in unknown language :(.

The distance to the bridge is giving depth to the composition. The point of view is showing the details of the buildings of downtown San Francisco. The good luminosity is bringing out the colors. Have a nice day.

Very attractive picture of that ever-beautiful city!

Dobar snimak, kontrast i perspektiva, lepo pokazana arhitektura.
Dobar rad, lepa panorama.
Imajte lep dan, sve najbolje za vikend, srecno.
Your father must be proud of you.
An interesting article on the town with a description, a nice view of part of the city and modern architecture ...
Good picture, contrast and perspective, beautiful architecture is shown.

This makes me incredibly jealous, it's the one thing I didn't have time to experience...and now I can clearly see I should have made a stronger effort to make it here! A great city from ground level, and quite the impressive skyline and view from this vantage point. So many neat details to look over, and a smoothly exposed picture to make them out, as we get a good section of the urban sprawl to admire. Clear, crisp and well framed. Enjoy the weekend. Take care.
maria-v1981 (10932) 2014-08-16 5:19
A splendid view over the city. I like how you have included the low buildings, which makes an excellent contrast with the mas of skyscrapers beyond. The bridge give the image great depth.
clic (17931) 2014-08-16 7:02
This super-detailed view over the city is one of the many reasons for 'leaving one's heart in San Francisco'!
saxo042 (37966) 2014-08-16 10:22
A very impressive cityscape an d a very beautiful city. Interesting to see how the older low buildings have to give place for the new high-rises. They seem to expand over the ground. A very fine and attractive picture.
marabu61 (11229) 2014-08-16 14:06
A truly impressive overview over the city of San Francisco with its iconic skyline. What impresses me every time is the sudden change of small dwellings to the skyscrapers from one street to the next.
Good light and a pleasant sky brings this composition nicely together.
have a great weekend

i'm a HUGE fan of city skylines.
I could post dozens and dozens in a row but every TE member would get bored after a while :)
glad you posted this one, its fantastic.
When I visited SF a few years ago our view up Coit Tower wasn't the best because of the lighting...but you have yourself a 10 out of 10 type of situation here!
love the clouds, love the depth, love the buildings and and overall sharpness/contrast.
Gigidusud (21247) 2014-08-25 13:53
Splendid panorama of San Francisco, excellent POV and nice light. I like a lot!

Don't worry because this photo is great:)! The view is really amazing and the quality is very good. Good light, colours and detail! The city seems really beautiful from here.
Selmik (3625) 2014-08-25 20:42
Beautiful panorama of the modern city. You clearly captured the main portion of San Francisco with great details, colours and clarity. Fantastic view of modern architecture with many sky scrappers.
boa (7543) 2014-08-26 10:57
this is a very good shot from San Francisco. Sharp and clear, with an excellent overview. Nice to see the smaller houses in the foreground to compare with the skyscrapers. Well done!
Have a nice evening/
jmdias (67247) 2014-08-30 2:32
I hope to see by myself this view in few days and I am impressed by the beauty of these details, so well shown in your compo. very nice quality of image. interesting how the two bridges and this tower were build in the same years and are 3 important symbols of the town.
eldancer1 (36343) 2014-09-03 7:27
I'd like to say this is my favorite city but I haven't been to San Francisco in a long time but I keep thinking about going. Nice pov with good lighting and sharp details. Well done, tfs.
ikeharel (76209) 2015-12-22 1:56
Found one beautiful spot, high above the town skyline, Lars.
The visibility on that day was superior, each house and building exceptioanlly in fine clarity, and the unique tower in triangle shape stand prominent among the other skyscrapers.
most impressive view of a city i spent two days only back in 7/1978.
