Celebrating our countries Independence Day, I wanted to be patriotic…but with something a bit more subtle. So why not a close up of this giant tablet?!! :)
If this isn’t distinguishable enough from the tight composition, take a look at the WS picture to recognize this well known icon which stands in New York Harbor. Oh…this particular statue is also wearing a crown, holding a torch and goes by the nickname of “Lady Liberty.” Too easy??
The people of France gave the Statue to the people of the United States over one hundred years ago in recognition of the friendship established during the American Revolution. Over the years, the Statue of Liberty's symbolism has grown to include freedom and democracy, as well as this international friendship.
It’s one of America’s greatest landmarks, a beacon that has welcomed countless millions of immigrants into New York and now appears on postcards and images around the world.
Fun fact: Lady Liberty hasn’t always been green, as it was made with an exterior of copper and originally had a far more shiny appearance. Her copper construction is 3/32 inches thick, which is the same as putting two pennies together…but it has naturally oxidized over time to form the green ‘patina’ coating.
Wishing my nation a big ‘Happy Birthday!’
Thanks for stopping by.
Thanks to Krzysztof for helping with the processing to bring out the statues “luster.”

I'm getting the itch to drive down to Seattle today just to capture the fireworks. They shoot them out of the top of the Space Needle, and there's a wicked POV from a park high up on the hillside not to far away.
I bet it's going to be filled with photographers tonight.
and yes, this is a well recognized landmark, easy to spot it from miles away.
as for this 'first iPad'...I wonder what size FONT that is lol
cool shot my friend, the crop is perfect.
kind of like how they show us only a tiny piece of the monster in horror movies...just to keep us dangling :)
happy 4th of July!
so when are you off to Russia? and you're meeting up with Malgo too???

Sorry, you've got I wrong!
The fireworks and celebrations are for my husband's birthday! We were so pleased with the effort that N.Y.ers made when we visited in July a couple of years ago. You know they put on the most wonderful firework display and we did wonder how they all knew it was his birthday. Obviously the Secret Service has more information than ever we suspected!
It is a very well conceived and composed shot. I love the idea of puzzles but, of course, the date gave this away immediately. How did you know it was my husband's birthday?
Have a great day,

Funny title, Jason! My congratulations!
Excellent close up. I like this cropped shot! Original idea, fine details of the Statue. I have never seen this book in her hand. Thanks!

happy birthday to your nation and all the best, take good care of the values this magnificent statue represents. I always felt awe at its size and imposing aspect and to think I have only seen it in films and photos. I like very much your strong and elegant composition and the focus it brings on the significant details and fascinating textures. There's stunning sharpness, the green tones and the play of shadows create a suggestive atmosphere. Superb work and due praise to Krzysztof for his help. Congratulations and thank you!
All the best, have a great festive day,

Congratulations it's 'Independence Day' in America.
A pity for you, but a small country as Belgium , that the big brother defeated during WK in Brasil, incredible.
Your picture is nice and scientific.
Sharpness and clarity make your picture attractive.
Excellent composition, nice presentation.
Very well done, TFS.
Have a nice weekend,

A big smiley and happy "Independence Day" sunbeam. Why is it I always think of Will Smith with a cigar in his mouth when I hear that and his quip about whooping ET's arse. A superbly creative take on today with this wonderfully creative and original image. The textures and tones here are just wonderful and I applaud yours and Krzysztof's processing. A real winner - sadly unlike your footie team the other night, my commiserations mate, they played really well.
Hey! Apple are bringing out a scented i-pad - so that your data is always fresh! I know it is crap but the one I was going to post was a bit too rude….B
Enjoy your day!
Still scorching hot here - I was in London yesterday and it was the hottest day of the year at 82F. I know…………..add 20 degrees and it would be Feeeenix! T'was a great excuse for a beer or two though.

Hello ami Jason

Balloon chair alert!
Happy birthday indeed, and what a cool and innovative way to celebrate. This is a unique and very compelling shot of lady Liberty, showing an important element of the statue that so few people actually see! Thanks to your spiderman like abilities, we all get to see it today though.
I have had the utmost respect for this fine lady since she saved New York in Ghostbusters II :)
Have a great weekend

Happy Birthday to your country with a so creative cropped image ( the moment I saw it, knew from where it was because of the color, never been so closed and of course never saw the Ipad
Imaginative way to associate France with the celebration
Informative note about the copper changing the color, same happens with old castles in Europe, now mainly dark , if you have a look at an Illuminated book, there were built white
Time changes colors
Are you ...going to Russia to meet Sergy????
It will be great, he send me old scanned pics from the frontier with Mongolia, may be you also go there
Enjoy the long WE

This is a distinct view which I have not seen before. It is an engaging detail of the statue. How did you get this vantage point?
Happy 4th of July!

Hello Jason, What a fantastic idea to celebrate America's birthday in this way. But first of all, brilliant title and note. Imagine the post (like we see here often) with a title - Statue and some text pasted from Wikipedia, lol. Stunning sharpness and nice colours of patina.
I was just curious if I could have something similar and made WS. i used my smaller lens when I was in NYC, so it is not so sharp as your and colours are also different.
By the way, A 12 m (39 ft 4 in) replica of the Statue of Liberty is in Colmar, the city of Bartholdi's birth, it was dedicated on July 4, 2004, to commemorate the 100th anniversary of his death. It stands at the north entrance of the city. The Bartholdi Museum in Colmar contains numerous models of various sizes made by Bartholdi during the process of designing the statue. I saw also other replica in Tokyo.
Haha, two months :).
have a great weekend on the hot Arizona desert

bellissima interpretazione del 4 Luglio, il titolo è un colpo di genio.
Bellissimo lavoro complessivo, anche le foto del ws sono molto interessanti e belle.

I hope you had a good fourth - it rained like crazy all day here in NYC!! Thankfully, the rain was gone just in time for the fireworks. :-) About your photo, this is a cool close-up of Miss Liberty and her tablet. I like that green color, and the sharpness is excellent. It was a perfect photo for Independence Day.

the biggest iPad ever I think?:)
Great shot, history lesson and...title,that makes it intriguing and funny.
I like the way you framed the scene and I´m glad I could help at least a little bit with this one.
Have a good sunday my friend
Ps.will send you an e-mail later.I came back from Malta yesterday night with some "adventures" on the way back:)

A very good shot of the symbol of liberty. Fromdom is not all free, it comes with a price, so is the iPad. Though I was surprise to see many people carrying one around, even little kids that really have no reason to have one. Other than to play games and get out of the parent don't really have to take care of them. I see in restaurant where family members all engross in their own electronic toys, cell phones, ipad, games. While I love all this gadgets, but I think there should be a time limit to how much one should use it.
Anyway, I'm going off the topic here. We have seen enough of the status in whole, so it is nice to see such a close up of it with strong shape and graphic with good composition, good detaisl and all even if the weather is not ideal with good light and blue sky.

A very famous monument, but an original shot! This is a fantastic detail, so well framed and with a very good quality. Light, colours, sharpness are great.
It was a good idea to celebrate the day!
