The fortress of El Morro is Puerto Rico's largest and most impressive colonial fort. It sits at the northwestern tip of Old San Juan, at the mouth of San Juan harbor. the fortress itself is beautifully maintained, retaining an old world feel despite careful preservation and renovation as a National Park.
The view here is from a balcony, added during renovation, that is accessible only from the men's room. It's an odd sight to see a balcony upon entry to the rest room here (see the Workshop for an idea of the layout), and even stranger to see such a beautiful scene when standing on that balcony, but there it is.

This is a very nice composition of well matching grey and blue. The white curves of surf create a fine pattern in the water and connect well with the tones of the stone structures. It's a clear and bright photo with interesting details in the foreground as well as a nice texture of the stone.
PS So your wife was actually not able to see this view herself?

I think you've shown us this interesting little watchtower before, but from a different angle. And here, by looking downwards upon it, we see no sky but only sea - and that does seem somehow to concentrate our attention on the little tower itself so much better than when we can also see a distant view.
How curious that the only way to this little balcony is by way of the men's room - why should the ladies be denied such a lovely view?
A very well composed image with glorious light and colours, perfect exposure and exceptional details and sharpness.

this is the view from the mens room? Wow, that is a surprise, and what a pleasant one too. Take a moment to soak up the atmosphere from this beautiful location, soak up the sun and the sight, then return to the world with nobody any the wiser. It is some view too, so blue and blue and blue. I often wonder why the rest of the world seems to have such beautiful seas while here in Ireland, they always seem to have that green grey tone that speaks of hidden jellyfish and seaweed.
This is a really lovely composition of the scene.
All the best

un ottimo pov per osservare dall'alto questa bella composizione.
Belle le scie bianche delle onde che disegnano il mare.

hello Andrew, Nice composition of this small tower near the angry sea. Such small towers so typical for fortreses in many parts of the world. Wonderful colour of the sea and attractive white foam floating on it.
Warm regrads MAlgo

Beautiful blue colours of the sea! The old fortification adds an interesting part of the capture. A good note too!

these different blue shades of the Ocean and the way they contrast to the grey walls are magnificent and create here very strong and captivating visual effect.
Nicely composed and close-up image!

sometimes I wish we had more than 20 critics a day - it is hard to keep up with all the good photos.
I really like how you composed this picture giving so much space to the blue see and achieving nice and light effect.
The corner taken by the fortress has perfect focus and has been shot at nice angle.
Great colors and good light management.
Thanks for sharing

How well I remember this scene, and how happy I am to see it shot with a modern digital camera. Warm regards, and have a good weekend.

Awesome capture of this ruin! Love the colors of the water, look so clear and invitingly warm. Good lighting and sharp details. Well done, tfs.

The fortress, the sea and nothing else : it seems that time stopped there and that the environment hasn't changed for many centuries... even if your note and the workshop take us to the reality back, maybe unfortunately !
Have a nice evening,

I like it that there is no horizon in the
picture and that makes the picture extra
exciting (you make the viewer curious)and
it makes the picture nice calmness
Light management and the composition are
good and the vertical position emphasize
extra the depth in the picture.

It reminds me of some forts we have here in Portugal. Very good high pov! I like the way you framed it and the tonalities of the water. Seems you had a great view from there.

What a beautiful presentation of this fantastic view! Your height POV fits perfectly to your concept of this image. Very well seen and executed work. TFS!
