Appalachia is a story-telling region, with tales passed down from generation to generation.
When I happened to see this older woman with beautiful long grey hair in the midst of a music festival and surrounded by tall fairies on stilts, coaxing a little girl into a quiet moment, I thought this might be an instance of that legendary storytelling caught on camera.
Perhaps they are grandmother and granddaughter, I don't know. I didn't disturb or intrude upon their moment, I just wanted to capture it.
And where else, but in the Black Mountains of North Carolina :)

Hello Kristin - Perhaps because I'm a grandmother this shot has bags of appeal for me. It captures such a precious moment. Soft and gentle colours work perfectly. Warm regards Rosemary

J'aime beaucoup cette composition très attendrissante. J'aime les yeux fermés des deux protagonistes et la grande impression de tendresse qui se dégage. Quel beau moment saisit juste au bon moment.

hi kris. you are indeed a story teller. i mean, looking at your photos and how you present the culture surrounding you, i will almost believe that asheville and neighbouring black mountains are home to thousands of years of history with strong oral tradition, myth and customs. the moment you captured here is priceless to impose that feeling, and it seems, the stroy telling tradition is so old that they don't use oral methods any more, but prefer telepathy to deliver those ancient tales from a grand to her minor. a trance over there?

Hi kristin. What a beautiful, emotional photo. These are precisely the moments that live long remain in memory - in both. You have the famous "decisive moment" perfectly captured with your camera. My compliments.
