After four uploads from the same place, I am ready to move on. The common theme between today's photo and the four previous ones is the bird's eye view of an urban area. However, today we are literally half way around the world, looking over to Diamond Head and Waikiki in Honolulu, HI.
Of the hundreds of places in Honolulu offering panoramic views of the city and sea, the wayside lookout in Puu Ualakaa State Park is considered among the best. From a height of 1,048 feet, the views of Diamond Head, Waikiki, and downtown Honolulu are majestic. In Hawaiian language, the name of the state park refers to a crop that was once grown here. "Pu'u Ualaka'a'' literally means "rolling sweet potato hill.'' In early times, planters would use gravity to help bring in the harvest, allowing the tubers they dug up to roll down the slopes to packers below.
From the park, we are looking toward Diamond Head, which is a volcanic tuff cone. Its name was given by British sailors in the 19th century, who mistook calcite crystals embedded in the rock for diamonds.
Puu Ualakaa State Park can be reached through the twist and turns of Round Top Drive which turns into Tantalus Drive. I have uploaded a WS photo that shows these twists and turns.

You're capturing well this landscape by a good angle and excellent tone/clarity, so it's interesting and impressive to see Diamond Head with the unique shape and volcano, and Waikiki in Honolulu which high buildings are standing. The city looks like to harmonize well with the surrounding rich greenery.

Hello Murat ,
From the lush vegetation in the FG , to the volcanic mountain in the BG , passing by the big city and its high rises , the view is really interesting .

Excellent city view, superb panorama photo. You have placed the city buildings in excellent way between the green trees and the brown hills in BG. The light is very good and the deepness perfect. Well done.
Wish you a vey nice weekend.

A marvelous panorama of the town in the other side of the globe.
The mountain on far is an impressive land formation in sight, its shape "frame" nicely the valley where the city lie afoot.
Probably more scrapers "grew" since 2007.
Nice clear view and DOF collected.
Have a nice weekend,

a very interesting and lovely picture. I like very much how you placed the title subject in the background, it stands out and is immediately attractive but you also offer us a great opportunity to enjoy the trip to the Diamond Head. There's so much to observe and linger on, so many delightful distractions. Depth and clarity are superb, the light and the colours are very pleasant and strikingly natural. Your note increases our knowledge of this place and hence our fascination. Congratulations and thank you!
All the best, have a lovely weekend,

Our paths have crossed again. I was here in 2008. Love the high pov clearly showing the outline of the eroded Diamond head volcanic cone. Interesting to see the high rise buildings away from Waikiki Beach, as you cannot see them from there because of DH. Well composed with excellent sharpness. Tfs!

Dear Murat, this is a good view of Hawaii, a the crater of a volcano is clearly visible in the bg, many houses on the slopes and high towers of the city, a brillant picture with good hues and high definition, deep field of vision, all the best, enjoy your sunday

This might just be the first time I've ever seen the entirety of Diamond Head featured in a photo, I'm really enjoying this original perspective. As you know, we generally only get the high point (peak) featured as it's the background along a traditional beach shot. This offers up a whole new world to it's size, scale and placement to the city. I may be but one person to have never seen this viewpoint, but congratulations for presenting something original!

We don't see many photos of this city here! Great pov! It seems to be a beautiful city with much vegetation and it has probably changed a bit since 2007.

The distance to the volcano is giving depth to the composition. I like thway you divided the scene, the sky, Diamond Head and the city. The point of view is shoing the details and the colors of Daimond Head. Have a nice day.

this a really amazing view with a quite modern city located at the foothills of the huge crater. The crater size becomes apparent thanks to the skyscrapers which make great scale markers. Very nice light too with good contrast and 3D feeling.
Have a great weekend,
