Photographer's Note

This 'Caped Crusader' is a Orangutan resident at the Albuquerque Zoo. Orangutans are only found "in the wild" in Indonesia and Malaysia. They are the most arboreal (tree dwellers) of the great apes, and use natural sophisticated tools to construct elaborate sleeping nests from branches and foliage.

The name "Orangutan" is derived from 'orang' meaning person, and 'hutan' meaning forest. Their primary diet is fruit, but they will also consume vegetation, bark, honey, insects and even bird eggs. Their life span can be over 30 years.
