Photographer's Note

Ellery Lake is not actually within the Yosemite National Park boundary, but is just two miles east of the Park on Tioga Pass Road (Highway 120). The Lake was created by daming Lee Vining Creek which flows eastward to the Highway 395 corridor. It frequently has snow drifts into summer being at 9,489 feet above sea level in the Sierra Nevada Mountain Range.

Currently Highway 120 is infamous for the tragic wild fire within Yosemite National Park, now the largest wild fire in California's history. The fire is located to the west of Yosemite Valley, and is currently threatening the magnificent Giant Sequoia Tree grove, being within one mile.
