After moving home to West Virginia, I stayed with my sister until I found an apartment. We put up a birdfeeder and mornings I would grab a cup of coffee and my camera and watch to see if any different kinds of birds showed up. Most of the time it was just the usual suspects. But on occasion, there'd be these (Red Bellied woodpecker)or maybe a Bluejay or a Carolina wren. I thought these were so cool, though.

What a beautifully coloured bird.
The clarity is so good I can see every feather. It looks a bit similar to our woodpeckers, and we get them on our feeders quite regularly, but they are shy and soon disappear.

what a fine looking animal/nature shot.
I really like how the birds head is turned to the side, so we get a great angle.
the red color contrasts beautifully with the green bg.

Well, this is a good reason for having a camera. What a colourful bird and what a great shot!
First, I like your composition with the bird and its perch on opposing diagonals; then, there are the details of the bird which are spot on. The bird's plumage has all the soft, feathery textures, whilst the beak and feet have contrasting surfaces, and the eye has a great catchlight.
Thanks for sharing this,

Excellent Audubon upclose view of the Red Bellied, in natural coloring and fine resolution.
Ironically I also sit in my backyard most mornings in the Sierra Nevada foothills of northern Calif eating cereal and drinking coffee, and watching the bird parade.
Have an excellent summer,
PS: I also miss Fulvio's candid humor and fine photographic views.

Woodpeckers are wonderful garden visitors. YOu did so well photographing this one with a well out of focus BG and lovely sharpness on the feathers. The subtle colours and the flaming red hed are beautiful.
Very well taken.
Kind Regards, Ann

this is so beautiful! I am recently into bird watching. I bought several feeders and watch now so many birds in my garden. Woodpecker was there too but it is gone now.
I admire the high quality of your photo here I know how hard it is to take a decent shot plus they are small and shy -the worst combination. For me the landscapes are too dynamic to photograph :)
adramad (40178) 2013-08-05 9:30
Superb composition both for its beauty as for its quality, this little bird is gorgeous with its colorful plumage so varied, you've captured in a nice POV, with these sticks in diagonal, the background with the green hue is beautiful and relaxing.
Very nice range of colors.
Magnificent good sharpness, brightness is certainly adequate.
Well done. I like.
Have a nice day.

The bird is well positionned in the frame. The point of view is showing the details and colours of the Red Bellied Woodpecker. It is clear and sharp. The light has a good effect on the colours. Have a nice day.

These are fantastically beautiful and entertaining little fellas!
See my shot of the same species, wherein the male red-breasted flirts with a mockingbird?

Wow! Awesome capture of this beautiful bird! For once I'd like the birds to come me instead of me going all over the place to find them. I like the pov and it has good details. Love the colors. Well done, tfs.
