The Valley of Fire State Park is actually about 50 miles northeast of Las Vegas near Lake Mead.
"The Valley of Fire derives its name from red sandstone formations, formed from great shifting sand dunes during the age of dinosaurs, 150 million years ago. Complex uplifting and faulting of the region, followed by extensive erosion, have created the present landscape."(from www.nps.nevadastateparks.com)
This is an mazing state park with lots to explore. They have a great campground.

Your title for this would describe the Phoenix valley perfectly right now...thank goodness for A/C!! Crazy landscape we have in this region of the States, it might as well be Mars! :) Always fascinating, the natural formations and patterns are intriguing, and I really like that you've included someone in this shot to show scale. Good idea to compose this with so much filling the frame to emphasize the rugged nature and texture of this unforgiving territory. Thanks for the view. Have a nice evening.
All the best,

I was at this park many year ago, didn't too much about it. I was recently here on Memorial Day weekend. The 26th a couple days before you. Just a day trip from LV. Discover this wave for the first time. The light was not good when I was here, near sunset, the wave was in the shade but the background in the sun, make photo a bit difficult. Anyway, you have a good shot here, the size is a bit small to fully shown its beauty.

Hi Karen. A landscape like a painting. Here nature has created a work of art. The title of the photo is very obvious. Yes, the American landscape in this region is very diverse.

Fine view in low lighting of the Valley of Fire's dramatic sedimentary stripes and geological uplifting.
A great place to hike (but not in summer) and as you stated camp. And certainly a world away from the Vegas Strip.

The presence of the character convince me you didn't taken a picture from the NASA ;o)
In addition he gives a notion of scale.
That landscape is wonderful and very interesting. You render it with warmful colors.
Very interesting and nice picture.
May I would add a frame around in order to highlight the photograph. Matter of personal preferences.
