This is the view from the very top of Diamond Head. The sky was a bit hazy, so it may not be 100% clear, but I'm sure you get the idea :)
Diamond Head is a short 1hr hike to the top, where you are rewarded with beautiful and breath taking views of the land below.
If you look in this direction you will get a wicked view of Honolulu and Waikiki Beach. Looking in the opposite direction you will see the large extinct Volcano Crater, perhaps I'll show that in a follow up posting :)
Its early in the morning here, thought I'd do a few critiques, then get our day started :)
Enjoy the view

A splendid view over the city. I like how you have included the grassy foreground, which makes an excellent contrast with the mas of skyscrapers beyond. The curvy coastline receding into the distance helps give the image great depth. Well worth the hike, though personally I'd prefer to take the car:-)

Hello, wonderful view from atop Diamond Head looking out upon the sea and Waikiki and Honolulu. Good point of view and nice composition. Haunama Bay in the early morning is gorgeaous and Sandy Beach and Makapu'u is my favorite with the black lava rocks (it;s near the lighthouse).
Have a great time in Hawaii and looking forward tomore posts.
Have a Happy Thanksgiving,

A stunning view from the other side of our blob.
Fresh clear air, morning light and fascinating urban scenery, made a fine city view on mid-ocean.
Have best of time there.

beautiful composition. Great to see those skyscrapers around with the haze background. The green part in foreground nicely balance the compo and added depth to it. Excellent... Tfs.

I like this great view of the city. The image is well constructed to show the modern buildings as well as leaving place for the sea and it's various tones. The green foregroung makes for deepness. The light from the cloudy sky adds a mood.
jjcordier (79297) 2012-11-22 8:40
Même si le ciel n'est pas au top, ce point de vue est toujours aussi impressionnant. Ces forêts de buildings ne me donnent quand même pas plus que ça envie d'aller passer des vacances là bas.

Wow!!! what a stunning panorama. An extremely beautiful picturesque and I do not see any obstacles because of the haze. Perfectly well done. I love the view from your POV. Brilliant postcard. Thank you.
All the best,

that's a pretty picture... endless space and heavy skies! I even like it better this way with no sun. I guess the beautiful bright blue sky would have made this photo a bit conventional but here we've got the mood!:) Still I like how the high-rises are set off by the rays of light coming through the clouds, great contrast indeed.
Have a happy holiday

It has hard to credit that even on small islands in the middle of the Pacific Ocean, we, humankind, have contrived to build so many skyscrapers !!
I did not get up Diamond Head in '89, but I remember my trip there like it was yesterday, so thanks for the visual reminder of a wonderful time. We stayed in one of those towers for a few nights, before going to Maui.
As per, your image is technically meticulous, so silence on that front ...

I'm so impressed with this view, firstly because it's beautiful and secondly because of the effort it took to obtain it. I'm such a fat sloth that I'd never make it up the hill, so will live vicariously through your hard earned hiking. It's also unusual because we're used to seeing blue cloudless skies in Hawaii. The photo has taken on a completely different yet attractive character.
Thanks for sharing and I'm sure you're enjoying your holidays - really enjoying the pics on FB

nice view of the city...

always wanted to go here, so really intrigued by your series from Hawaii. What an amazing view this is. Not sure if I like the fact that concrete seems to reign supreme here but it is certainly eye-catching. The population increases so it is logical to build upwards as space becomes limited. Immaculately captured as always, hope you are getting some R&R as well as these wonderful images.
Have a great weekend - Brian.

Wonderful view of Hawaïi capital, so many high buildings
Excellent pov and framing
Good sharpness, fine colors, wide view
worldcitizen (8470) 2012-11-23 12:19
Another great shot from Hawaii! I like the way the frame is split between the greenery in the foreground, and the highrises in the background. The shape of the coastline is also interesting, and the high POV allows nice depth. Enjoy every minute! :-)

It`s not always easy to choose the best lighting conditions when on vacation. I agree with you, the best part is the lower 2/3. What a viewpoint you found. Truly a beautiful and stunning view over this famous place. The water provides a nice colour contrast to the green. Fine work:) TFS. Have a great WE over there!
Best regards, Erling

Hi Craig, I am envious, we have grey short days and you are in paradise. marvelous view. Of course, you look for skyscrapers, and it looks here like a big modern town. I am looking forward to see more nature.

this marvelous, panoramic view of Honolulu definitely makes up for effort of climbing the top of this hill.Great combination of beautiful nature and concrete jungle. There is a little something for everyone.
And as I see, after visiting Poland and Czech Rep. and climbing countless towers, hiking and climbing becomes slowly second nature to you:)So there is a chance for more such amazing pictures from you.
By the way the view would be also great at blue hour or at night.
Have a nice sunday
Cricri (117853) 2012-11-25 0:46
Certes le POV donne une vue impressionnante sur la ville remplie de buildings, les courbes de la plage, la profondeur et cet avant plan de verdure qui donne un côté agréable
lousat (89778) 2012-11-25 1:41
Hi Craig, what a beautiful view but what a terrible concrete invasion on this paradise of the past,a situation that i seen in many countries too, especially Brazil and Turkey. The pic is very very nice, excellent quality as usual and perfect eposure.Have a nice Sunday and thanks,Luciano
Schnappilic (9690) 2012-11-25 8:25
Beautiful presentation of this modern city from this high POV. The result is huge! Congratulations!
All the best!
mkamionka (35820) 2012-11-25 12:23
I am glad you leave the skyscrapers behind heading towards the more natural areas :)
This does not mean that I don't like these recent two photos. I am glad that you show this aspect of Hawaii too. Somehow not many people imagine Hawaii in this way I believe. Lovely composition from a spectacular POV. Interesting how you have captured three different areas here: green, blue and concrete.
Excellent reportage, I am looking forward to seeing more,
tyro (24348) 2012-11-29 0:00
This is a beautiful panoramic view across Honolulu and I particularly like the soft early morning mist or haze in the distance which adds to the sense of depth and makes a fine backdrop to the city's tall modern buildings. The tall buildings are really quite beautiful in the early sunlight too.
A fine composition, the curve of the water's edge leading the eye perfectly through the frame and into the distance with a lovely area of green parkland making up the foreground.
Lovely soft colours, gorgeous light, perfect exposure and, as always, exquisite details and sharpness.
P.S. Have a safe trip home to Vancouver!
