Heading back to New York for a photo or two.
This was taken on our first night in the Big Apple, around 2 or 3 o'clock in the morning. It was raining hard outside, it was cold, it was miserable, but we didn't want that to ruin our first experience in the large city.
This is taken in Times Square, as you can see, its almost void of people, except for a few in the bottom, one of which is twirling an umbrella. It was so empty here this evening because of the heavy heavy rainfall. And of course I had my tripod with me :)
You can also see a small pile of garbage...that was new and surprising to me about New York City. At night, you'll find garbages laying around all over the city sidewalks, and early in the morning its picked up. Its not like that here in Vancouver, we thought that was very interesting, seeing hundreds of piles/bags of garbage everynight all over the city - yet its very clean as its picked up promptly.
Hope you enjoy the view.

Monde de la nuit, de la lumière et de la pub......en opposition totale avec le petit tas d'ordures. Même à ces heures indues, tu as toujours ton il de photographe grand ouvert.

Your night time shots of NY are fsacinating. There is a sense of quietness that cannot be caught during the day. The pile of rubbish and the late night trio really add that human touch to this city of concrete and bright lights. The rain has given a super effect on the ground with the lights reflecting in it.

Great colours, great atmosphere, and lighting. The rain certainly has had an excellent effect on the mood and the reflections on the pavement. Many would have been tempted to clone out the garbage, but I think it was the right choice. What a shame to see that NY is going that way. Thanks for sharing and I wish you a lovely weekend.

Good title, amazing composition. It is not easy to find this green umbrella without support of another green points. Is the Swatch a sponsor of this post today? )))

Nice work both visually and technically, and in addition to problems with time.
Too bad you've made a little photo.
Beautiful colors and nice atmosphere.

Good Morninng Craig,
You had more fortitude than me. I'm afraid I slept very well in N.Y. after strenuous days and never saw the city at this time of morning. It is most interesting to see the emptiness of the streets. However, that is not the most eye-catching aspect, surely that must be the bright lights and that almost unnerving advert, where the figures are looking straight into the camera. What a shot that is!
Despite the rainy conditions, you have captured the mood and the details very well.
Have a good w/e, my friend,

A wonderful night shot as usual and very interesting with your notes. I really like the touch of green on swatch and on the umbrella. Congrats, hve a nice we.

this shot intrigued me in thumbnail because I thought the pile of rubbish in the fg was a person lying on the ground! It is a brilliant composition and execution with such great light and a real futuristic feel about it. That's it! I was expecting the person to be a naked Arnie as in Terminator! I think I'm losing the plot! Excellent work as always.
Have a great weekend Craig - I'll be back! Brian.

Ciao dear Craig,
interesting night testimony of New York, real and original, with few people in the streets, with only the lights that give life to this incredible city. Your effort to have the tripod has rewarded you, with this photo captured with perfect management of light and colors. Also fantastic the sharpness. Excellent work, dear friend, congratulations!
Ciao, have a nice Sunday!
dkmurphys (46326) 2011-12-11 0:40
I like the contrast between the richness of the upper part and the garbage on the sidewalk. Spectacular lights on the city, well captured scene.
Have a nice Sunday.

I remember your other photo from the Times Square.
The wet pavement makes a great contribution with all the colorful reflexes. Very nice composition with the garbage in the foreground and a nice couple above. Most of all I like the atmospheric view emerging in the right side.
I would probably tend to straighten the perspective here but it is a personal preference. As framed here -straightening the perspective would loose too much on both sides but if taken wider there would be a chance.
Very well spotted as usually, you have a great eye.

That's a great street shot presented a night life of New York. Love the commercials and colorful lights around. A very attractive work for me. Thanks for sharing.

This is another nice Times Square shot under difficult circumstances. I like the green umbrella that matches the Swatch sign, and the giant couple that is looking right at us. All of the neon colors reflect very nicely off of the wet sidewalk, too. By the way...what happens to the garbage in Vancouver??! You've peaked my interest... :-)

The rain often brings something different to the photos and reflections on the ground here is still very beautiful.
Your New York serie is also very interesting for me. It's nice to recognize the places we've seen recently, as it is clear from this photo of Times Square.
Good week Craig and happy holiday season.

Very beautiful and ironic shot! The garbage, the lights, the fashion, the human beauty... the city! The light was difficult, but your management it's unbelievable, fantastic! Thanks for sharing!
DarkoG (8) 2011-12-18 6:19
like this photo. It shows us two faces of life in megalopolis. Glamor and shine of luxury and riches and garbage that this glamour produces all around.
kato (11630) 2011-12-19 18:54
You're capturing well this cityscape by a good angle and excellent tone/clarity, so it's impressive and interesting to see one spectacle of the midnight of a big city. It's impressive in a commercial signboard and many colorful neons, too. And, the people standing in front of shop draws out additional good effect in this image, too.
korbee (6615) 2011-12-22 13:42
perfectly in the modern style of Swatch Craig!
They sure know about colors and good taste.
all best for the new year with good health and much more photo fun,
