This is a photo i took from the Hyatt Hotel in downtown San Francisco.
Inside the front entrance there is a large open spaced area for the guests to mingle and spend time. So what you're looking at is the Carpet. I took this photo from way up above, on the 10th level, pointing my camera straight down onto the floor below.
It was extremely dark inside, so i had to increase the ISO, resulting in a very slow shutter speed, hand held.
But it was the patterns that really caught my attention.
The piano was an added bonus, hope you like it :)

I love pictures from this angle. They can provide very attractive and surprising impressions of well known, ordinary places. B&W was probably an obvious choice in this case, which is all about the pattern of the floor and the addition of the black piano. It's well cropped, with one of the parallell diagonal lines starting exactly in one corner. The piano is also well placed near the opposite corner and placed on another diagonal.

A place where I went more than 30 years ago and which was at that time " a must" in terms of innovative architecture and I must say that I was quite favorably impressed
here a very graphic b&w shot with this pattern of circles and lines and the piano well placed in your compo
Maybe you cropped, for my personal taste, just a tad too short at the bottom of the piano
SWEETFREEDOM (20592) 2011-07-10 7:21
the piano fits very weel in the picture, i like the pattern and b/w treatment.
Crispilandia (842) 2011-07-10 7:24
A simple picture with a good frame and composition. The figure of the piano in a geometric floor and cutting the straight diagonal image. A perfect choice of treatment in B & W.The perfect POV. It's a suberb image, I love it!
Have a nice sunday,

I appreciate very much your shot! I like the choice of B & W, which enhances the beauty of the pattern of the floor and the geometry of the image. The piano, perfectly placed, it creates a fascinating note that harmonizes well with the other elements. Bravo, a photo imaginative, original and artistic.
Have a nice day

Minimalist, attractive and beautiful picture. I like the position of the piano, the graphism of the mosaic and the B&W choice. The result is very creative and well done

It only could be yours...original, elegant, never seen Hyatt from this perspective before. You got such a good serie of shots in S.F.!
Ninello52 (7267) 2011-07-10 9:22
Excellent graphics performance! Very good at exploiting the bird's-eye view and compose this beautiful image! Magnificent piano, the only piece of furniture, whose shape fits well into the design of the floor! Congratulations!
Best Regards, Nino.

Defininately one of the best abastract and artistic POV anc composition I have seen in a long while. The graphic pattern if fantastine the straight lines that interupted the circles, the piano as the darkest element serves as an anchor point to our vision I like the face aht the bench is not set up propery pararelle to the piano, an unepected disordered of things making you wonder. Exellent exposure and great quality for hand held, hard to have a tripod shooting down straight. The Christmas decoration at this hotel is also really nice with thousand of lights in strings hanging from each floor. B&W is perfect.

The photo is very creative. I like very much the graphics, and the place of this unusual piano. I admire the composition and the realization. Excellent quality. Bravo.
Have a nice day

Love the choice of B&W, that way we can really focus on the patterns in the photo. Before reading your note I actually thought I was looking at tiled floor rather than a carpet. The piano adds interest to the photo. In my opinion it is slightly squeezed into the picture at the bottom. All in all, excellent work, congratulations!
worldcitizen (6025) 2011-07-10 11:42
This is great!! I am mesmerized by the patterns. I love the POV, the placement of the piano and bench, the B/W...everything fits together perfectly. There's not much more to say! :-)

the optic angle makes this photo really exciting, the details of the photo are splendid. The photo composed very well, the final result is an original sight entirely, I like it very much.
Tfs! Have a nice evening! Kellemes estét kívánok!
patdeph (35744) 2011-07-10 12:20
the graphism of the floor is really superb, emphasized by the B&W conversion, and I like the piano in the corner.Great idea,I like very much!
papera (13844) 2011-07-10 13:01
I was about to comment your Broccoli Row but then I saw this one and... well, you know how it is, between a b/w and a colour one, I go for the b/w :)
I like the bird view, it's always one of my favourites even if I don't use it very often.
I don't know how old the Hyatt is, but this pattern surely makes me think of those glorious American grand hotels from the '20s - very Art Deco and definitely graphically oriented.
the piano is a great cherry on the cake of this composition, without which the image would have been a bit lifeless.
have a good evening,

Tripodless again? Now can you sympathise with me and my perpetually tripodless situations? Anyway, to you photo. Fantastic graphics, a great choice of Black & White and the tight panoramic framing is good too. The sharpness is good considering that it was hand held at 1/15 seconds. Great job, have a lovely Sunday.

Wow, quelle prise!

I like the frame in B/W of this capture in plane zenital.
Interesting geometric composition of the pavement, with the detail of the grand piano like the only element.
sevy (14917) 2011-07-11 2:17
Very graphical, you used very well the possibility of view from above to propose a new way to look. The B&W is perfect on this shot to underline the pavement and the specificity of this view.
timecapturer (40374) 2011-07-11 3:48
this is magnificent, such an original and superbly observed composition. The detail is amazing as is the symmetry which makes the piano and stool so outstanding. Wonderful work - a stunner! Well done!
Have a great week - Brian

I do like the designs here that come together to make a fabulous photograph. Very well observed and taken. I agree with Patrick about the crop but possibly there was nothing that you could do about that without falling!
rigoletto (33751) 2011-07-13 12:00
I was pulled in by your latest foggy bridge photo, but then i was stopped by this stunner. Absoultely amazing effect with this fancy abstract of tiles and a piano. Congratulations.

one of the best photos I have seen on TE, fantastic shapes and excellent toning black and white. Congratulations on a beautiful photo.
mkamionka (28041) 2011-07-17 2:53
as I am a rather postcard person, this composition is less interesting to me than others yet I do appreciate the creative use of the geometric elements. Even the piano turned into a geometric shape.
You have certainly a great eye to spot interesting compositions.
Have a great weekend,
jmdias (49715) 2011-07-21 18:23
a marvelous detail. these patterns in the ground are impressive but your composition is perfect with the piano and the right lines crossing the compo. marvelous graphic effect. very beautiful job. TFS
