Deveils Garden in Escalante, it is truly a photographer’s delightful garden with many interesting shapes rocks and hoodoos. So if you visit Bryce Canyon National Park, and if you have an extra day, add it to your itinerary to explore the nearby Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument. One nearly deserted and beautiful natural sandstone area in the monument is the Devil's Garden.
Take Scenic Byway 12 to the Hole-in-the-Rock road. Be prepared for graded gravel driving conditions on Hole-in-the-Rock road and allow plenty of driving time. Devil's Garden is about 12 miles down this road. You can make the trip in good weather in a passenger compact vehicle. You may need a 4-wheel drive in certain weather conditions or if you go farther along the road past Devil's Garden.

sevy (14307) 2011-04-19 1:44
Funny title for this shot. But it is really the soft and pleasant lightning whic allowed to extract the color of the stones and to provide a nice mood.
It is an example strong contrast is not always the best choice. Soft contrast can be as good.

I remember seeing picture of this trio from you before...The light is good & highlights the three rocks well. It falls from the left. The light is mellow and the shadows are not deep. Good contrast with the blue sky! Good work with fine technical quality as always!

Escalante is one of my favourite places in Utah but I didn't get to the Devil's Garden so nice to see it here. You have captured these rocks perfectly by making use of the wonderful light. An excellent POV and composition.
alabate (1197) 2011-05-03 12:22
Encore une superbe composition, avec ces trois rochers érigés. Ils ont une forme humaine et semblent regarder en direction du soleil.
Les tons sont très doux et chaud. Une grande sérénité se dégage de l'image.
Bravo, et excellente journée.

macjake (45588) 2011-05-14 4:08
I've been to similar places in the US, the grand canyon, and the Valley of Fire just outside of Las Vegas.
So i know the difficult lighting conditions photographers face in these places.
waiting for the evening sun, as you did here (or early morning) was your best bet, the light is strong but weakening, giving a warm glow on the rocks.
very sharp, we can detect the textures and formations easily.
mkamionka (27075) 2011-06-07 2:29
this is again another wonderful place which I have missed. But your note explains why "if you have an extra day...", I didn't.
You have captured it in a wonderful warm light.
Excellent presnetation, thanks for the informative note, may be I can make a use of it at the next visit :)
jmdias (48359) 2012-02-19 13:57

abmdsudi (32509) 2013-02-15 1:23
A great description and a fantastic shot, this place would be a photographers' paradise I reckon and nice lesson as well. The uniqueness of the three guys and the formation are truly sensational nature wonder so well detailed and textured as the light makes this subtle and intricate. Compositionally it is superb, but what is even more impressive is your absolutely brilliant handling of the exposure. Indeed this is fantastic formation, really enjoyable to behold. Congrats, TFS
