Photographer's Note
It was many years ago that I saw a photo of the Venetian gondola's in Las Vegas. The photo made quite an impression on me and I discovered that it was taken with the Canon 10-22mm wide angle lens. This eventually led me to purchasing this lens, and now I have had the opportunity to photograph the Gondolas in Las Vegas for my own enjoyment. When we were at the Venetian earlier this month the water channels on the outside of the hotel were out of service, and so I was restricted to shooting water scenes from artificial lighting on the inside of the hotel water corridors. Nonetheless one cannot help conclude that the hotel environment though a replica in extravagant details from Venice, the result is somewhat surreal fake experience far removed from the real thing.
The real city of Venice is plagued with decay and severe flooding problems, while the Venetian in Las Vegas provides the idealistic feel of Venice in an artificial setting where clouds are painted on the ceiling above and the air conditioned atmosphere provides comfort for tourists inside because its too stifling hot on the streets outside. And when we were there it was just above freezing outside so this place was perfect to see. Thank you.

Hi Paul,
In Las Vegas everything is surreal. The contrast of the houses iluminated and the bright sky is surreal too. TFS!

Hello Paul,
Nice capture of Surreal Gondolas, with a very well-balanced composition. Clouds on the ceiling look as if it's real.
i have that lens, too. but it is not allowed to mount to 5D.
Best wishes, Hisashi

Hi Paul
its always fun to see photos taken from another photographer at locations you've been to yourself.
almost everyone who's been to vegas has one of these in their personal galleries.
I know i have mentioned it before, but i've been to vegas about 8 times, and trust me....what you have here is a lucky shot - not very often do you see 2 gondola's close together like this.
having the 2 boats on 2 different angles creates a unique visual, 2 points of opposite direction.
As for the lighting, its bright despite being indoors, with lots of illumination in the yellow tones created by the storefronts.
lovely shot here, very well done
have a great day
