Good Morning Everyone,
On our recent visit to New York, my husband and I were walking up Broadway when we saw clouds of black smoke billowing into the sky.
Hearts pounding, feeling like important photo-journalists, with cameras in hand, we both headed to a vantage point, to record the scene!
On that hot, summer's afternoon, no-one seemed to be taking too much notice of this unfolding drama!! But, with true, dogged selfnesness, we continued to record the scene for posterity. (I quickly shot an approaching fire-engine, lights turning and siren blaring! I will place that in the w/s.)
Still, not too much interest from the general public!
Unable to find out what amazing drama we had recorded, later in the day, we spoke to our taxi driver, being sure he would know all about the event.
Layed back and with New York coolness he stated "Honey, those firemen are the most overworked guys in the city!" End of story!!
Many thanks for your interest.
Hope you enjoyed your little peek into N.Y.

Hi Beverley. Interesting shot. You must have felt like you were working for the newspapers. Nice of you to be thinking about those firemen, risking their lives every day.

Suepr captage et compo, avec lenchaînement de ces ba^timent carrés, le graphsique cubuique de l'image, et cette énorme funée qui s'échappe en fond et qui doit pulluer, superbe.

this is great work for such a grab shot.

Quite a dramatic capture. It is hard not to think of the scenes we saw on 9/11. But this was apparently not so dramatic after all. But you captured a very good view with good colours and a fine pattern of all the windows. The street view with the fire engine is equally good!

An unusula and very efficience view of NYC. The composition left/right in differents plans well delimited give a greta depht to the image. Nice harmony in the colors. I like too the unusualmixt between white clouds and black fog.
Have a nice WE,

this is a good reportage shot with great clarity and nice colour. I read your note thinking that I would have had the same feelings and reaction had we been there at that time.It may not be uncommon to have fires in high rise building but it sure would be scary!

Wonderfully amusing note to go along with this dramatic urban image.
Very good colors and sharpness and I love the earthen roof belows the black smoke that looks threatening against the clear blue sky.

Good evening Beverley,
What a scoop! It was a superb occasion to make a good photograph and to be likely to become famous:) Despite everything this event does not appear banal to me. Excellent quality of the realization.
Have a good evening

First: the photo
I like it a lot for the lovely graphism of this typically American architecture and the strong sense of tridimensionality given by the sideways light, excellent clarity and sequence of buildings. Last but not least: I love those puffy clouds.
Your story tells how people in big cities (everywhere in the world) have ceased to be curious and to be interested in what's happening around them. Indifference is the result of living in a too crowded environment and being exposed to too many stressful events daily...
Better living in a small town...

reading your lovely note was like witnessing your unforgettable and thrilling experience that you have documented excellently. The composition is outstanding, especially the POV is very well working. Thanks for sharing this moment and thanks for the humorous note!

Good morning Bev,
very nice presentation of this part of the city with the POV to place the buildings the one behind the other with sharpness and clarity.I like the contrast of the colours as the brilliant light of the image.Well done.
Have a nice week,Danos

desspite of the drama it's an interesting subject a good reportage even if you were far of the place.

A photographer beeing by chance seeing a fire, is like in a play in the lottery - beeing there is a grand factor in any photography action, as beeing alert too.
You managed to show this drama, and with a foreground of a beautiful typical architecture's on the edifice added on left.
A fine detailed shot, Cheers.

I was looking at your NYC photos again, and this one caught my eye. I have always loved the mix of old and new architecture in the city, and I really like the building in the foreground of this photo. To my knowledge, I have never seen it before. The repeating arches are lovely. Then in the background there are the newer and more severe modern type buildings, with rows of rectangular windows. There is even some greenery on one of the roofs! It's an interesting photo. The smoke is just an added detail for me, but the buildings are the stars. :-)

Fine photojournalism, this is a great shot. The way the buildings are all placed in the scene makes this look like a scene from a seventies detective show!
