Good Morning Everyone,
This morning, I would like to share a shot which I took whilst on holiday in New York.
This wondeful pier, curves out into the Hudson River from the Manhatten-side bank.
I loved the view because, not only was it possible to follow the vast curve of the pier but, in the background, it's possible to see the iconic skyscrapers of the city.
Many thanks for stopping by.
I hope you enjoyed the view, too. Bev :-)

The curving pier with its repeating motifs offers a wonderful sense of depth as well as a magnificent view. One wonders why it was so deserted, perhaps too early in the morning for most New Yorkers (I know I am one to talk) :-) The image is well composed with good colours and sharpness.

The curving pier leads the eye through the shot nicely. The repeating pattern provided by the lamps and benches creates a fine sense of depth. The lighting and colors are great and the photo has excellent sharpness.

A less known view of NY but very interesting too.
You've done a perfect use of this pier and its graphism.
Your framing is very effective, with an elegant curve and the city which is perfectly on view.
Great light management, not so easy with such a white coating.
Maybe it just lacks a solitary walker to give a sens of scale, but nothing serious...

Hi Bev..but where is the people? ehehehe...what a magic and long perspective,i like a lot your hard exposure on the bridge,it seem an infinity road to the nothing, perfect sharpness, colors and composition....a very nice view from your american trip!Have a nice day and thanks,Luciano

une très bonne prise de vue, le POV est bien choisi et crée une superbe perspective.
pauloog (11747) 2010-08-10 4:12
I like the strong curving and straight lines in thi photo together with the central white, clean and empty pier, a somewhat surrealistic urban view.
sevy (15367) 2010-08-10 5:43
At first look I was thinking it was a winter photo due to very white ground of the pier.
I like the way you used the curve of the pier in the composition to drive the look to the buildings lanscape in background. It is providing a dynamic effect.
saxo042 (37792) 2010-08-10 11:42
A fine view with the long sweeing curves of the pier and the lampposts above. What is the building at the end of the pier? You seem to have had very good weather here in NYC. Did you go to some jazz clubs?
Disabled_A (0) 2010-08-10 15:05
so you've been to New York? :) I bet you've taken many interesting shots there!
I like this one very much: the curve of the pier takes the look quite naturally towards the horizon and distant skyscrapers. The composition is very well balanced. But in a way it seems to me like a scene from a fantastic movie! LOL maybe because of the colours? or... the lamps??
with very best wishes,

The curving bridge makes an excellent lead-in to the tall buildings in the distance.
The evenly spaced lamp post really cathes the eye while thewhite walkway and brown benches contrast beautifully with the blue sky and wispy clouds.
The depth is fantastic while the colors and details are superb.

I just can't resist a curvy perspective and this urban one is great. Thanks to the lampposts, this eye-catching curve comes out stronger. I'm not sure if the gray gate on the right side was necessary in your composition, but I understand that you have decided to use it to frame the scene on one side.

Good morning Bev,
really great the perspective as the depth of the pier lead-in the eye on the complex of the skyscrapers on the far end of the image.I like the beautiful line of the lampposts lengthwise the pier, as the effective contrast of the colours.Well done.
Have a nice day,danos
Kielia (24077) 2010-08-11 6:46
you created a fantastic impression in your typical handwriting! But this time the composition also reminds me of a painting of Edward Hopper. It is not only this fantastic light, it is also the perspective and this spectacular curve. A great capture!

I've decided to add this photo to my favorite list, when i travel to NY, i hope to see this view aswell.
wonderful sense of depth, lovely curvature, and a visual delight with the skyskrapers too.
lots to admire and love here

Very fine Bev,
I like it a lot.
The perspective created by the curved pier and its long row of street lamps is really so appealing and the view of NY in the distance complete this remarkable composition. It's a masterly constructed image, with fine light and colours, neat and harmonious.
Didi (60320) 2010-08-14 10:53
Good position who shows us an interesting curve.
I think I should wear my sun glasses for the highlights :)
magalik (6103) 2010-08-14 15:04
I had noticied this shot in the gallery for its graphism. I like it very much.
You perfectly exploited this pier and its curve and well balanced the composition.
It's surprising to see nobody on this pier, the place seems so pleasant. I have the feeling to see an image from a futuristic movie on the end of the world ! ;-)
Have a nice sunday.

macondo (19253) 2010-08-17 23:39
Superb image quality from your excellent exposure - keeping it very controlled, more under than over-exposed, just the way I like it. Brilliant viewpoint gives this some great graphical qualities, and the verticals of the gate on the right edge complement the skyscrapers very well. One of your best, for sure. I love the gently curving pier, so clean and tidy! Hope you enjoyed your holiday.

Not really crowded on such a nice day, where have they all gone ? In any case it makes a nice curvy perspective leading to the big background buildings
Have a nice day JY

This has great depth and strong perspective, attracting the viewer into the picture.. Light, colors and sharpness are excellent too.
s_lush (16134) 2010-09-05 12:35
This scene looks very elegant and beautiful due to the nice lines of the curved rows of lamps, benches and constructions of pier, which all together create wonderful perspective and give depth to the picture. Absolutely artistic job!

Hello Beverley, Very nice photo. I love the view. It forms a line taking my eyes straight to the building. Beautiful!! Well done. Sothy

This is rather new pier/bridge on the west-side Hudson promenade, Beverly.
Countless white lamp-posts ghave an exquisite DOF, impressively stretch out and far.
Nice shot from the POV chosen.
Enjoy a nice weekend,
