Photographer’s Note

....Than curse the darkness.

I have had this shot for a long time. I loved the different colors of the lamps in the semi-darkness of the market. The brightness and warmth of their light.

My heart is very heavy today. I have lost someone so dear to me - it is like losing my sister. She suffered so, it would be selfish to wish her still here. I only hope that wherever she is, she is shining brightly like the light from the lamps.

A difficult subject very well handled. I like the dimly-lit face, and the sparkling glass. The frame is unobtrusive but adds greatly to the overall effect.

Hi Shelly.
Good to see you still posting, but sad that you have suffered a loss. Your bold upload and great title make a fine tribute. The angle of view gives a little perspective and it's good to see just a little detail in the shadowy background, enough to make out a face in the gloom. Very nicely done, and worth keeping for this occasion.

I'm sorry to know that you have lost someone close. But her light will live on and this is an aprropriate picture to remember that.
I like the warmth and pretty light of these lamps as they shine through the darkness.

A fine image for a sad day...
I like this tradition we have (I wonder if it's the same in the USA) to lit a candle or a lamp when someone dies. I think it must have a strong symbolic value and probably it's origins are far away in pagan times.
I've never seen such a collection of lamps (chinese) and their colours compose a simple but graphic photo.
The light mnagement is excellent.
