Photographer’s Note
to continue my experiments with abstracts, here's another, still from Wendell State Forest. the long exposure and moving camera made - hopefully - the needles of a pine look a little like a liquid light pouring down.
about the photo: as with the previous abstract post, the image is straight out of the camera, no adjustments apart from converting from RAW, resizing and adding the frame. again, I was after a mood, a feeling, forgetting about technicalities.
----------------
RAW, ISO 100, 105mm focal length, spot metering.

Hello Kristine,
So you are in an experimental phase, trying new things in photo. Good idea to make some trials, it helps to know the language of photos.
Now, it is difficult for me to comment this photo as it is strongly abstract. The colors and the composition are very good, filling well the volume.
Yves.

Hi Kristine
I do not really understand what I see, and frankly, I do not mind, because I like it anyway... The energy of the movement, the colors, the softness of the textures are enough for me toi enjoy this shot. The golden hues makes me think to an incrustation of quartz rutile, which I find beautiful.

Hi Kristine,
Nicely resulted experiment here, i first thought they were sparks out of sime source of fire.
I appreciate your efforts for minimizing the pp.
All the best,

Hello Kristine! A wonderful result, I "bring" it to my yoga class when we have time to relax and hopefully it will last for a while up there in my brain. Okay it might make me a little dizzy maybe but maybe it brings something to my head that I did not know before. So elegant with the huge white frame, such a wonderful flow. I wish I could experiment this way, maybe it needs some East Coast mood. Have a great day, my class begins SOON ... Barbara.

Hi, Kristine. The advantage of abstracts is that you can imagine lots of things. If you hadn't mentioned the tree, I would have imagined sparks escaping from a fire. the colours are interesting with the contrasting orange and silver tones.
Have a nice day,
Philippe

Hi Kristine, I like your experiments with light, especially this one. It is really an effective image with an effect to remind us the movement of water.
Well done!

Hi Kristine,
I like these experiences that you make. These pine needles were transformed in my eyes into a magnificent golden hair.
I imagine the face of the magnificent princess to whom belongs these hair!
Beautiful!

Hi Kristine,
When I opened the photo, I thought is was from one of the slot canyons in Utah. It is impressive how smoothly you controlled the camera movement to create such a beautiful image from pine needles.

Hello Kristine...
Its been a while..i keep saying that always..and i disappear..i miss so much and repent..
By far the best of the abstract series...NO PP can create this..and its straight off the sensor...every pixel in that frame..this had to be born in the head..
to "creativity" and "shot-straight-off-the-sensor-"
there's a reson why we should all keep at it..
thanks and i hope to see you back K...guys like you should stay around..even a shadow helps sometimes..you know someone's there...
cheers

Hi Kristine,
Very imaginative technique renders beautiful varying shades of gold with a hint of green.
The smokey texture brings a tranquil feel to this lovely abstract.

Hi Kristine,
I really like this one much better than the earlier post of the forest, it gives a much more cheerful and pleasant feeling to the senses. It does looks like a water cascading down between rocks. The golden light and tone is quite lovely. Good composition, if you can call it that. it can as well be a 30x40 piece of abstract painting that's worth thousands if you put a famous name on it. I really do enjoyed it.
Thanks.

Wonderful! I thought you had zoomed into a waterfall with golden reflections. The light on those pine needles must have been something special to create this effect just with movement. A few weeks ago we went to an exhibition of Peter Leeming's work. You won't have heard of him, but take a look. I expect you will like this gallery. He does basic landscape too, but this gallery was the work he had in the exhibition.

Kristine,
You've created an artistic, pleasing and - despite the movement - somewhat restdul effect with this shot. Experimentation is always worthwhile, I feel, even when - as was the case with my (unposted) "trees in the wind" efforts - the results are not in themselves as pleasing as one might have hoped.
The idea - and it's only an idea - that the purpose of a camera is to make a straight record of "reality" is, IMO, it's dullest application.
Cheers
Colin
