I was surprised when I got inside NY Public Library and realized taking photos is allowed. Actually I didn't feel confortable disturbing the others. It's a quiet place, a real beautiful architecture and it smells knowledge (hope you got what I mean).
The history of The New York Public Library begins more than 100 years ago. As the 19th century drew to a close, New York, the greatest city in America, still had no real public library. But thanks to a handful of visionaries and millions upon millions of users, The New York Public Library today is internationally recognized as one of the world's great libraries.
The Library's importance is a function not only of its sheer size and scope, but also of its unique character. It is the only library that features both world-acclaimed research centers and a large network of neighborhood branch libraries, all of which may be used by the public, free of charge. The Library is also distinguished by its long-standing tradition of serving the local community, as well as the international world of learning. Its neighborhood library system is one of the largest in the world.
The Library's online catalog and website make its holdings accessible to users worldwide. The Library's collections themselves reflect the profoundly democratic and all-encompassing nature of the institution. Numbering into the tens of millions, its holdings range from the most venerable monuments of human culture -- such as the Gutenberg Bible and Jefferson's manuscript copy of the Declaration of Independence -- to materials that document the everyday lives of otherwise anonymous people.

This is great! I remember the first time I visited this room, and I was in awe of the beauty. I have taken photos there, but mine are certainly not as good as this one! :-) Great job with the colors and lighting. Everything is so vivid. The symmetry of details, and the ceiling are wonderful, and you have presented them perfectly.
jimkil (1706) 2009-09-11 16:18
I don't like HDR that much, and when I do it must be subtle and still have a natural feel to it, but this really works with this scene. Its alive and in your face considering it's of a library. My favourite part though is the empty desk to the right with the lonely book. The ceiling is impressive too.
Compliments on this capture
batalay (39281) 2009-09-11 16:20
Absolute classic, Carlos. I've seen the outside of the NY Public library so many times, but I confess, as an academic, I have never been inside. I certainly plan to rectify that omission in my cultural development in the near future.

An unusual view on TE. Unusual, orginal, efficience and very nice with a good mangament of light, a very pleasant impression of symetry. The attitudes of the students are very well colectd too. Congratulations.

Hi Carlos, one of the most elegant indoor photos that I've seen lately. I can feel the silence and the smell of "knowledge". Simply wonderful with excellent symmetry. Congratulations, Tolga

A tua fotografia é magistral.

JCG (35129) 2009-09-12 7:01
The interior of this room of reading is splendid and your photographic work creates a really pleasant atmosphere. Through your image I feel the silence which must reign there… I like much the quality of the HDR, I suppose, the luminosity is very beautiful and really appreciable clearness. I believe that at the end of the alley there is another person who makes a photograph too !!! Cheer Carlos.
With all my friendships and a very good WE,
avene (12675) 2009-09-12 7:33
this looks more like Amber room, not library :) I quite like the pp, it reminds me of anime films, same magic light. intresting :)
francio64 (39888) 2009-09-12 8:18
syd1946 (18663) 2009-09-12 9:31
Fantastic photo not only for the excellent handle of the inside light but most of all for the scene itself.I enjoy it very much together with the very interesting note!

Wow, what a great inside decoration, Carlos. The roof, the lights and overall the books... Fantastic. Nice colours. The people inside this gorgeous library added life to it. Actually without them, I think it does not appealing as great. Thank you for sharing this wonderful photo with us.
Have a great sunday.

Quite a postediting you pulling up here.
looks a bit like a 3-D redering, like it;
you are more then welcome to write about it and describe what technic you've used
is there a other photgrapher at the far end of the libary ?
COSTANTINO (66581) 2009-09-14 12:50
Nice capture of that moment in the library.a quiet
place.A place that gives hope that there is people interested in the books. The lightness is excellent
PixelTerror (0) 2009-09-14 12:53
There's too much HDR wizardry here to be a photo anymore, but it could work quite well as a comics scene, not sure this fits TE though...
Have a nice day JY
lucasgalodoido (23069) 2009-09-14 18:35
Belo trabalho.
Parabéns e Abraço
Benedict (7076) 2009-09-14 20:41
ssshhhhhh..silence please, i can hear a pindrop!

InasiaJones (31566) 2009-09-15 1:06
Listen to me Carlos,
Get yourself a new camera, a better one (stick to Canon...), than upgrade one of your lens and go pro man... There is a market for your kind of stuff, I'm telling you.
As a creative director for ad agencies and design studios, I used to buy a lot of photos from image banks (Getty, Photonica, Corbis...) and hire many photographers. What you are doing is outstanding and EXTREMELY commercial. Because they have an illustration quality, art directors might be very interested in your image technique.
You are not doing crappy HDR Carlos, you know how to manage it with subtlety, you make the colours popping-out without weird/ugly effects.
If you can diversify your applications to other subjects than architecture, there's a lot of potential for what you are doing and a lot of cash to keep investing in your equipment and put money aside...
If you are able to deliver top quality shots like this one, within a tight briefing, according to detailed sketches and specific requirements (and under "control-freak" art director's pressure), you can easily charge 5 000$ per photo, not including assistant, make-up artist, stylist, props and so on. Find yourself a niche, prepare yourself a good portfolio with about 20 of your best stuff and begin to sollicitate ad agencies, talking to art directors or send some PDF directly to their attention.
Buy Communication Arts magazine and Luerzer's Archive to know a bit about the trends in advertising and design world.
If you can achieve such a shot without anything else than your Rebel, you have a lot of potential to become famous.
Just don't forget to send me my 15% commission.
pablominto (53746) 2009-09-15 3:22
Now this is the kind of HDR treatment I can live with!
The room has this excellent feeling of depth, and the colours are very much alive...
The accurate point of view gives fine symmetry for the composition!
chpp (4281) 2009-09-17 12:05
another great shot, a nice and balance POV with excellent exposure and vivid colours
the sharpness adds an extra feature to the shot and makes it almost like a cartoon
very nice job
axiotea (21651) 2009-09-18 11:32
For a brief instant, I thought it was a painting, but not ;) My sincere compliments for this wonderful picture which you've presented and framed so well.the HDR worked perfectly too! It goes directly to my favourites!
Best regards from Thailand
