Photographer’s Note
Not much reminds me of speed week when I look at this picture and I guess most of the year the Bonneville Salt Flats are pretty much like I show it, sometimes with more water than now when the summer heat dries the wet parts out and leaves this famous white salt crust I have shown in other uploads from other corners of this lake. No snow in the middle of summer :))) but salt that slowly dries out. This is what it is!
I don’t know how it goes with you but I have always these things in mind and how they have to turn out for me when it comes to photography. I have seen pictures before of famous photographers. I had blue skies in my head, a white salt crust we could drive on and maybe even a motorcycle standing there serving as my foreground, maybe Burt Munro’s Indian Twin Scout :))) What we had on our first day was an overcast sky, water on the salt curst and a rented car that was by far not attractive enough for a picture. LOL.
Anyway, now that I am back, I love this picture a lot. My foreground is all salt (and stone) and no sea foam. This is how it looks for me but it is not.
Other pictures, taken a day later, WITH the famous white salt crust:

Guten Abend Barbara!

Hello Barbara -
This lake bed has many views and you have discovered a few of them. You have been able to capture something that most do not see. I have never really stopped at Wendover and explored the salt flats where the world speed records have been made. I have spent most of my time exploring this great lake in the NE corner at the Bear River Wildlife Refuge where you can find so many birds it is hard to fathom. I have also spent a good part of my working career working on the GSL that I find visiting a hard thing to do. It seems like I know too much about the details of the lake to spend time trying to record them. Anyway, an interesting image combining the details of the salt flats with the environment that controls the desert. Well done!
Thank you for sharing.

Hi Barbara,
Good there can be beauty in simplicity. What I like here is the vast open spaces and depth that seems to go on forever. Subdued light seems totally appropriate for this one. Well done and TFS. GErald

This huge and wide Barbara and has your stamp on it. I love the way you capture such magnificent width. Great hues as well.
I have put up an exhibition of Delhi Monuments called 'Freedom Frames -Monumental Milestones'at the very prestigious Habitatworld in Delhi...and its got decent coverage, listing and reviews in the media...I have added all those clippings on the 'making news' page on my website www.aadiljamal.com
I wanted to share this personal achievement with you and all my mates on TE and thank all of you for helping me evolve as a photographer. I am sure you'll be proud of me!!

It looks just like a calm sea and the white foam left by the small waves. It must be an amazing place to see. The texture is captured perfectly in the foreground pebbles and dried salt. It's almost like two images in one: blue/grey at the top: cream/beige at the bottom. You found loads of unique photo opportunities here.

Hello Again,
I'm catching up. I alway joke with my friend next time when we pass by Salt Lake, we need to bring a lot of french fries and pineapple. He like salt on his french fries and I like salt on my pineapple, most Asian people like salt on pineapple, I know it sounded strange.
Okay about the photo, a minimal composition showing what is like out there. Big open space of salt plain and big open sky.

Barbara,
You're right, it really does look like a coastal scene, with this (fake) foam in the foreground - a feeling which is only intensified by the lack of anything we can definitely identify as land. Even that little rifdge in the distance could just be a breaker, turning onto this big flat beach.

Liebe Barbara,
wirklich toll gemacht! Minimalistisch wie immer und dabei sehr wirkungsvoll. Die blauen Streifen am Himmel sind hier ganz wichtig und die Schärfe ist wunderbar.
Gefällt mir gut!
Schönes WE!

Hi Barbara, I really like the tones and textures you've brought out here all accentuated by the great choice with the vertical framing. It looks like sea foam but is amazingly salt. Wow, what a sight, thanks for bringing it to us. Enjoy your weekend, Lisa.

Dear Barbara,
at last I can express my opinion about this photo which sort of reminds me of a painting - because, as it seems to me, there's nothing but colours and "texture" - and that's the essense of the shot, which makes it attractive. (Well, this is my impression). IMHO, you created a very good photo with these proportions of "stripes" which Nature offered you. and you captured the mood of the moment.
:-) Warm regards
and very best wishes!

I can see why you like this photo, the emptiness taken to the extreme is beautiful in its own special way. I think that the blue sky would create a completely different mood, and for some reason I think I would not enjoy it as much as I like this barren landscape. this is certainly very different from the classical Utah photos, but I have to admit I cannot take my eyes off it.
regards,
Kristine

Hi Barbara,
I have a hard time choosing between this one and 'Breaking Rocords II' as a favorite; fortunately, I don't have to choose. Here I particularly like the junction between salt and sand and in BR II, the thick salt and the lone figure are very effective.
World's Fastest Indian is Larry's favorite movie and Hanne's website is amazing.
