Photographer’s Note
Red Canyon is one of those small, compact places that capture your attention immediately and can hold it for a long time. intense red and orange against the blue sky and bizarre rock formations make you wonder if there was something extra in your morning coffee. the light was harsh when we arrived at the Canyon, but the colours are so saturated even the midday sun is not able to bleach them.

Hello Kristine,
I do not know which kind of product was in your coffee, but I had the same in my tea. The colors are incredible, even more with this full deep blue sky, making the contrast strong.
The trees are very important in the frame to put a kind of 'reality' and evidence it is a real place.
Only very minor concern is the effect of the polarizer a bit visible in the sky, helped by the orientation of the sun just on the top left outside the frame. Very minor because I do not think many people will notice it.
Best,
Yves.

Hello Kristine,
Truly, a remarkable place!
The colours make a bold statement against the blue of the sky.
I'm glad you included some trees to give an indication of the scale and, of course, they give life to what appears to be a very arid place.
Well composed.
Kind regards,
Bev :-)

Hi Kristine,
Incredible colours and extremely sharp. You were quite lucky to have a such a clear day and a dark blue sky. I have also visited this area and would like to return.
TFS.

Hi Kristine,
Wow, and wow!! Those reds are almost blinding - and to think this is one place we didn't make it to when we did the South West a couple of years ago. I really like how you incorporated that tree on the right. Very well seen and TFS. Gerald

Hi Kristine, you have such a good eye for colours and shapes. The image is perfectly metered despite the harsh elements, the sharpness is enviable as is the DOF. The lone tree on the right really contrasts well with the other features. Have a great weekend, Lisa.

Hello Kristine! Oh no, no need to have something in your morning coffee, it is THERE, you saw right unless I had something in my coffee too :))) What a strong and beautiful orange, what a dream day you had, how well used with making photos, how beautifully presented. Love the tree and how it stands out, cute the little path winding its way through the canyon. Wish I was there right now but instead I have to earn money as it seems to bring me back to wonderland. Have a great weekend ... Barbara.

Hello Kristine -
Red Canyon? Is this the FS/BLM unit west of Bryce Canyon on State Route 12? Henk would have been proud of this image with the stunning red rock and crisp blue skies. He would have raved about the "Velvia" look of this image. And, those are my sentiments as well. Well done!!
Thank you for sharing.

Hm? I wonder why they call it "Red Canyon?"
Wow, Kristine.
It is really red. Personally I would have tone it down a bit, but this certainly demand attention and under such clear sunlight, I know it can be very red. beautiful blue sky to complement and contrast the red rocks. Great details and texture on the rocks. the trail looks so small. Very nice, I'm happy to say I will be out there soon if not exactly Red Canyon, but somewhere in Utah. Thanks

Hi, Kristine -
"Red" in nature and in hair color doesn't usually mean red on a color wheel, but this one comes close. Very intense colors, nice use of polarizer (!), and great composition with the little touches in the corners.
Best,
Dan

We visited Red Canyon in 2000, and it seems as if many people miss it as they rush hot-foot to Bryce. Did you do the Arches Trail; there are some very unusual arches.
The colours are stunning and the mid-day sun has done no harm at all. Imagine what it would be like in evening or morning light. Amazing how the trees seem to grow right out of hard rock. They complement the red and blue predominant colours perfectly and together with the 'ribbon' path are great for scale.

Hey Kristine,
saturated they are...oh my god! This place must be something! That's a well-balanced composition anyhow, with just enough sky and tree to go with the big rock.
Best,
Philippe

Hi Kristine
I see you were just as impressed as I was. I still remember Henk in his note saying many people just drove past without stopping which is a pity. So I stopped. The colours are so intense. I like the contrast with the tree and how the little path and the clouds in the background add depth.

Kristine,
The overpowering colour catches the eye - of course - as does the curious formation you've captured with such detail. But what holds it all together is the inclusion of the path, snaking away across the slope, and those little trees of diminishing size just above it, giving this portion of the shot depth.
No, I've never stopped here. Well, only to get out of the car and have a stretch between Escalante and Zion! Maybe next time?
Cheers

hi kristine
It's a truly captivating post.I think the composition has gained a lot from the harsh light on the rock, Light management, contrast, color and definition are simply superb,

Hi Kristine,
Beautiful combo of such richly texture golden rocks and the most complimentary blue desert sky.
Very sharp image with superb colors.
Love the contrasting lone pine on the right and the lovely clouds on the left.

Hi kristine,
Love the nice saturated colors here, a trade mark in your photos. The composition is interesting... I do not know if the fg is a huge rock or small one near the lens.. very smart!

Hello Kristine,
Very impressive intense red and orange though the blue seems to be beaten by the rock's colour. Clouds put characteristically play a very important role to bring a nice perspective.
Best wishes, Hisashi

Kristine, feels like the heat should be baking you. Great shot and fabulous details, the path under the tree scales it wonderfully.

Hi Kristine,
You are right, the colour of these rocks is absolutely beautiful. Naturally saturated, it creates an excellent contrast over the deep blue sky.
Have a nice week,

Hi Kristine,
how are you doing? This one pops up in the frame, even in the thumbnail version. It looks the rock is shining by itself. I like a lot the shot, it's full of life and its has very good details. Well done!

Hello Kristine
The red colour is glorious!! But this structure looks more like a giant dried mud ant hill than a rock...I think the texture & compo of these rocks are different from the rocks of the other formations, maybe softer. And that lone tree up there, IMO is the peach. Superb contrast between the red and the blue of the sky
Best Regards

Hi Kristine,
Your well thought out framing makes the composition a whimsical delight; surprising depth of color under the mid-day sun.
