Photographer’s Note
The Sunday brunch buffet was open for business yesterday morning at J.N. "Ding" Darling National Wildlife Refuge but this guy came up empty most of the time. A light breeze caught his feathers every once in a while.
Is this a little blue heron? I could use some help with this ID.
A Canon 400mm f2.8 lens w/ a 2x teleconverter was used to get this shot. Nonetheless this is cropped quite a bit.

Hi Greg,
This is the reddish egret. I think this bird has the most personality so far. The detail is pretty nice, especially in the spread wings, and the water drops off his beak. It's a very elegant picture.

Hi Gregory,
You really captured good detail in the feathers anbd the eye, I can usually get one or the other sharp but not both. The body feathers look a lot like a herons, but I'm used to seeing a lighter head. Perhaps in the young the head is darker - a young eagle looks nothing like a mature eagle.

Greg, this is a great shot, I love how you captured him making a shadow on the water to defeat the glare, great work.

Bonjour Gregory,
une photo exceptionnelle, je connais des revus scientifiques qui payeraient pour l'obtenir :-).
Tout est bien réglé, de la DOF à l'exposition.
Bien à toi.
Daniel.
