Sacandaga River
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Sacandaga River is a river in the northern part of New York in the United States.
The Sacandaga River is a tributary of the Hudson River and enters the Hudson across from Lake Luzerne, at the border of Saratoga County and Warren County.
The Sacandaga River's headwaters are at Sacandaga Lake in the Town of Lake Pleasant, New York. From Sacandaga Lake, the river follows a short, slow moving path to Lake Pleasant. The water from Sacandaga River drains Lake Pleasant at a small outlet next to the public beach in the Village of Speculator. The River then follows a winding slow moving path through wetlands and various ecosystems. In Speculator, a park with a series of boardwalks and pathways follows the course of the river. The park is known as the Sacandaga River Community Park, and was built by local volunteers.
Near the townline of Wells and Lake Pleasant, the river fills a series of ponds known locally as "duck bay." The Sacandaga then takes a steeper path, flowing over a series of cataracts including Christine Falls and Auger Falls.
The Sacandaga River is joined by its east branch in the Town of Wells. The river then slows in the Town of Wells, filling small Lake Algonquin. Lake Algonquin is a manmade impoundment of the river constructed in the 1920s to bolster the communities tourist industry.
The river proceeds out of Lake Algonquin through a hydro-electric plant and follows a course of rapids to Great Sacandaga Lake through the towns of Hope and Benson.
The Conklingville Dam, finished in 1930, located by the west town line of Hadley, greatly expanded the width of the river, creating Great Sacandaga Lake.

Hi Tom,
Great river winter scene you captured, Wonderful view looking over the snow bank capturing the beautiful river and I like the angle of the tree really stands out against the blue sky, Great lighting Tom.

Hi tom.
As you would know, I like deep rich colors and so the thumbnail of this one jumped out at me. That said, the blue especially right at the top right of the frame is almost black - maybe a tad too dark by my liking? I like the perspective and the vertical view works perfectly. Well done and TFS. Gerald

Hi Tom,
Great view, and the low light accentuates the drama of the image.
I love the way you push the boundaries on your shots, always looking for an edge to give your work a unique look. For me though, I think the blue grad is a bit overdone, the halo around the trees and hills leading off into the background takes away from this wonderful shot, with that unrealistic look.
Cheers

Hello Tom,
A superb blue colour in the sky but too in the river. Good use of vertical format with the tree in the FG. Nice prospect whith the river which invites to discovery. Nice photowork.
Have a good week,
Roger

This solitary pine tree stand outs magnifically against the intense blue sky and this justify the choice of a vertical format which gives a great sense of depth, enhanced by the long river line with trees covered banks. A wonderful winter scenery in a cold but bright day.
All the best,
Donato

Hi Tom
cet arbre solitaire qui monte la garde devant la rivière et encadré dans ce superbe ciel d'un beau bleu donne une vue magique à ce clicher, bravo.

Hi Tom
Nicely exposed with stong saturation in both the sky and water. I presume that is a rock in the water near the right hand side of the image as it looks light blue on my monitor. I am always amazed how many different rivers there are in your neck of the woods.

Wel composed image from the bend of the river. The dappled light on the tree trunk and the more distant trees is wonderful. I don't know how dark the sky was originally but unfortunately the lines from your PP are evident, otherwise it is a great shot.

Beautiful rich color, Tom.
I like the way the light is beginning to fade and you caught the best of it. The curve in the river adds great depth and I like the way the tree fills in at the top. The shadows on the snow are wonderful. This is a great shot! Many thanks and warm regards,
Shelly
