Photographer’s Note
Viewed from the bottom, this was a daunting climb on a late afternoon with no-one around. The switchback curves had to be judged just right unless you wanted to be held up when it felt like the best thing to do was keep moving. Only a rear-wheel-drive car has enough turning circle for them. The trail dates from when ores were trucked up in pre-war days. I thought 'If those old trucks could do it....'

Hi Gerry,
Welcome to TE!
This is a pretty familiar view to me. I've driven Shafer (I think that's the correct spelling) Trail a couple of times. Believe me, it's a lot more scary going down than up! ;o)
About this shot - it gives a good overview of the trail and the canyon bottom, although I would have liked to see more of the switchbacks on the top part of the trail (or, in the photo, on the bottom). It's possible to get a better view of them but you'd have to lean over the fence of the viewpoint a little...
Also, I find the very bright sky on the top a bit distracting, and the shot could use some more contrast. I have tried a workshop - hope you don't mind!
Best wishes, keep posting
Claudia
