Photographer’s Note
There is something uniquely southern Californian about this scene.
It sometimes feels too easy to go photograph the obviously interesting places here, like the beach. I want to capture the feel of an ordinary neighborhood (might as well use the one I live in.) A couple of characteristic features:
First, there are few if any people around on the streets in general, at least at night, which gives a certain austere feeling. To an outsider, the light in the area wouldn't appear warm and welcoming, instead it's a bit distant. (Not true for we residents who know our neighbors, but that's not the feeling I'm trying to photograph.)
Second, there is "nature" in the form of lush plants and such, but it is walled off, sculpted and controlled.
If you find these (or other) elements of interest in the photo, then I have succeeded; otherwise I guess not.
Some people travel halfway around the world to get their photos. Am I cheating if I walk down the street, then post a photo on TE...of my neighbor's house?

Ken,
Nothing is wrong with showing the photo of your neighborhood, Unfortunately you and I are similar, we don't live in places like London or paris or any city with great architectures or landscape. Our so call LA River is just a ditch. So it's rather boring image, photo quality is fine, and it shows the way and styles of houses in So Cal. As for the TE spirit of learn about the earth, you're right along that category. I sure if you just travel a 30 minutes you're somewhere wonderful. The beach, the view of mountains, some ethnic towns...the possibility is endless. There are time black and white is nice, in this case I don't see a reason. This may be more attractive image and show more details if it were in colors.

So an unusual image of your California, Ken! No colors, no beachs, nothing of nothing. Just a home in the darkness. But...bravissimo! I like it!
