Photographer’s Note
30Dec08 - 67 (F), no wind, blue skies, lots of sunshine. What a way to end the year. And in one of my favorite parks with four of my favorite guys. Doesn't get much better. :))
This little waterfall is in Sesquicentennial State Park in Columbia. The sun was beginning to set and I was losing the light to the deep shadows of the live oaks and pines. I loved the way the light caught a bit of the tree, though, and the rough texture of the bark. Ihope you all have as pleasant a year as that day was.

Hi Shelly:
Very nice shot. I don't think I've commented on your pictures before, but this is a very nice one. Were it not for that bit of light on the tree, I'd say it was fairly average, but the light is a lovely touch that adds enough warmth to the scene to make it inviting. Good job.

Hi Shelly,
I too like the lighting on the rough tree. The waterfall itself is more a backdrop, which makes it different to me.
I love to discover little waterfalls while everyone goes to the big ones, so I appreciate this little fall. Since I live in Florida I sadly see no waterfalls.

Hi Shelly,
Well I contend myself forsty bones with the knowledge that July and August will be payback for all this beautiful South Carolina January.
Beautiful sharpness and glimmering to riffling surface of this lovely river below the gently cascading falls.
The giant tree makes for a very effective anchor to this lovely image.
Regards, Tom

Hi Shelly,
What a beautifully composed view. I like especially the magical light on the tree. The rushing waters add great dynamism to the image.
Congrats and I wish a happy new year to you with your family,

Hi, Shelly -
A lovely, peaceful scene. Somehow having all the main elements at right angles works here. I really like the soft light on the fg tree too, as well as the colors in the rippled water. Oddly for that slow a shutter, the water does not look blurred.
Best,
Dan

Hi, Shelly.
With a sizeable delay, but... Happy New Year to you and your family, my dear friend! Just got back to town, been working for the past week in the countryside, no computers around, and for a few days I can't say I missed them. Thanks also for your wonderful email, I greatly appreciate. Now, I've been one time in Columbia, in 1991... this is something I seem to remember from a park I visited at the time, it could be the very same Sesquicentennial State Park. It sure looks familiar... Lovely and wonderfully moody! You guys are lucky, I'm ready to kill for 67F. right now! Have a great day, I'll be seeing you soon. HUGS,
Fulvio.

Hi Shelly,
Wonderful shot Shelly, This is a really nice little water fall you captured and like the little bit of light on the tree, Very nice reflection in the water and you did on the Exposure setting to leave the water fall a natural look. Very well done on the sharpness and clarity. Outstanding Job Shelly.
Warm regards
Jason.

Hi Shelly
Very nicely done and I agree the texture in the tree is enhanced by the soft waning sunlight. Very well composed as the tree keeps the eye in the image and on the waterfall.

Hi Shelly,
you are right with your note .. a lovely play of light on the tree .. and good job with keeping all the detail in the distant dim light .. I like the green on the water as well .. and being so close to the tree gives a really nice sense of space .. beautiful image. take care, John
