Photographer’s Note
We had a brief visit to Canyonlands National Park and this was one of the viewpoints overlooking the Islands in the Sky area. This rain squall gradually moved towards us and I kept snapping until I felt a few drops. Utah is a great place to see big skies and weather.

Hello Phil,
This certainly makes a difference with the blue sky - white clouds pictures we so often see from the West.
This panorama has a special atmosphere, xwell doen.

hi Phil,
what a dramatic landscape...and the storm over there increases this drama!
Utah is a real place to visit....infinite skies and landscapes...nature at its wildest level...
I visited to Island in the sky...and I felt so harmless, small and fragile in front of this mighty nature as shown here

Hello Phil! I have overflown it, I have stood there but there was never this kind of excitement with this rain cloud touching the earth like you show it, speaking of photography of course. You would not want to come near it in a little Cessna :))) but it is totally attractive for photo taking when you are on the ground. Amazing place, isn't it? Great shot indeed, you feel small when you stand there, especially with weather changes like you show it. Have a nice day, Barbara.

This is a wonderful shot with the rain shower captured as it was on its way. Beyond it we can see blue sky again. Without the harsh shadows you get in these canyons in full sunshine, we can see more clearly the way the rocks have been cut by the winding river. Is this Green River or the Colorado?

Hi Phil,
The distribution of light is awesome! The island is lit by the sun and watered by the rain at the same time. The curves are amazing as well as the whole scene. What a great place to visit! Thanks for sharing Phil.
Best regards
Denis!

I don't know how many times I've been to Canyonlands and never been fortunate to have this kind of light. You are there for a brief moment and look what happens. It just isn't fair. A great photo. The mist looks like it is rising from the table in the center.

Hi Phil,
Your excellent light management captured the excitement of the storm well while still showing great canyon detail. Sorry you missed the balloon trip, I'd like to try that.

Hi Phil,
A nicely created, magical art image of the carved plateau with the lighting and the rain mist.
For a different angle try one of the Green River or Colorado raft trips in the summertime. There are no strip malls or fast food joints down there.
Thanks for sharing,
Ray

Hi Phil!
At first, I thought you had taken this photo from a plane. The pov is fabulous and it gives a wonderful view of the place. Those rays of light are a wonderful detail. It doesn't even seem it was raining.

Hi Phil. Something grand about the landscape and it becomes even more breathtaking when the elements start interacting. It is wonderful to see these intact stretches of America. Regards. Klaudio.

Hi Phil,
fantastic background to catch the rain. Amazing shot: pure nature. Colors are also great: dark sky and yet enough light to illuminate this spectacular landscape.
Congratulations

Another winning shot Phil! The rain really is the added interest to an otherwise 'common looking' scene. I guess it's a case that canyons have been photographed sooo much that you look for a unique scene- and you've done it here mate. Well done!
My only suggestion is to be carefull of visible dust spots as they can detract from the image.
(ie: far left just below horizon in the first inch, and in the sky just to the right of the rain above the horizon and one further up from it)
Cheers buddy!
