Photographer’s Note

It's unusual to see storm clouds in this area at this time of year (the dry season). I noticed a large cloud formation hovering over the Mendocino National Forest area for several days, and decided to see what it would look like from the lake.

I waded out about 30 feet into the lake to get this shot. (Good thing I almost always wear flipflops!) The water level is lower than it should be due to less than average rainfall this winter, so the lake was only just above my knees. I'm standing at the southern end of Clear Lake looking northeast toward Lucerne and beyond.

I've done very little to this photo in post, just increased the contrast a bit.

Hi Rachel. Nice catch, you have chosen your POV well! Good colours and definition, the clouds especially. The FG water has good texture and adds to the depth. Nice work and thanks for sharing.

Excellent image of Clearlake, the angle looking across the water to the distant rolling hills. I have taken many images of Clearlake, and I like yours better.

PS: I just got a warning from the Clear Lake Riviera Assoc. to clear my lot of vegetation because it is a fire hazard. I'm thinking of sending the Sierra Club to educate them on ecology, or least their bureaucratic "experts" should take some biology classes?!!

great idea to photograph in the water, being able in this way to capture well the movement of the surface. Very beautiful this great cloud sculpted by the wind in high quota. Excellent photographic quality, compliments!
