[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
This picture was taken in Mammuth Hot Spring, in Yellowstone National Park, WY.
The area is one of the several geothermal hot spots in the park. Algae and minerals produce interesting color patterns in the rocks. The area is very active and it changes year by year.

Yellowstone Park is very large, and itis very different from part to part. There are geysers, colored hot areas like this, canyons, rivers, lakes, bears, otters, etc. It is more or less as large as a country like Switzerland.
So visiting it in one or two days, like many organized tours do (at least from Europe, many of them spend just 1 night in the Park) and claiming to have visited the park is just nonsense. I suggest to take several days, to take your time and fully enjoy it in all its aspects.

Scanned from Velvia 100.

Hello Stefano,

Very nice shot evidencing well the color pattern on the stones. The velvia and it seems also the polarizer allowed to extract a good colors from this scene.
I like the composition which put the stones as the main element and the piece of deep sky which provides a good contrast.
Your photos of Yellowstone are an invitation to visit this place.

Yves.

Ciao Stefano,

Hello Stefano -

Excellent composition. Most image of the Mammoth H.Springs try to incorporate too much real estate, here less is more. You have been able to focus attention on the structure of the hot spring and the mineralization of the structure. The sky tops of the image with it's deep blue color. Excellent detail and sharpness. Well done!

Thank you for sharing.

John
