This picture was taken in the Yellowstone National Park, USA. The place is a sort of volcanic lake colored by algae, which give the water this reddish tone. The steam comes out from the center of the lake, where the water is particularly hot. Yellowstone has several geothermic areas like this.

If you happen to visit it, take your time, travel around and spend time to take hikes, and "live" the park. The park is as large as thee Switzerland, so it makes no sense to spend only one day in it.

The picture is a scan from a Velvia 100.

Ciao Stefano, bella vista del geyer di Yellowstone, coloratissima, con un POV ottimo e con una perfetta esposizione per catturare il vapore.
buona anche la qualità.
ciao

Hi Stefano,

The blueish tone at the end of the water and the yellow/red in the foreground directly give away the velvia. I like how the shoreline curves through the photograph and guides the eye towards the horizon. The hill in the distance is not so easy to see, but I blame that on the 800 pix of posting. Love it!

Greetings,
Dennis

Buona giornata!
Renzo

Hello Stefano,

I like the framing using this colorful orange curve driving the look to the hot water and the strange hill in the background. It is like this I imagine this park.

Yves.

Che colori meravigliosi, è una scena irreale sembra che sia la scia del razzo dei marziani, e invece sono incredibili fenomeni naturali.
La luce bellissima e la nitidezza ne fanno una gran foto, complimenti!

Livia

What an impressive, unearthly place! I love your composition and the clarity that presents all those details & textures. Is it really 3 times as large as Switzerland? Wow! But the again, everything is incredibly big in the USA compared to this part of the world. Even a slice of pizza is 3 times as big as the ones here. I'de really like to see this park. TFS.
Have a nice weekend.

Hi Stefano,
Great colors. I will be there next year.
Algae are hyperthermophiles. The colors are also coming from bacteria (extremophiles) living in extreme environment. Extremophiles are part of the missing link to explain life on Earth and possibly in the Universe. Colors are the same in New Zealand
Nice shot.
Cheers.
Michel

Stefano
Superb capture from yellowstone, well scanned, detail, colours and composition are all spot on in this.
Regards
Jim

Hi Stefano
As i said, i take a look to your gallery and stop on this one.
Yellowstone will be one of my next stop and colors of bacteria with thermal blue of water like on your picture give me good ideas. It seems you were unlucky with this too much cloudy sky, but your pov is well balanced between it and the part you accorded to bacterias.
Have a good day

Alexis
