Photographer’s Note

From last summer: sunrise overlooking West Thumb, Yellowstone. The real action was to the left where the sun was rising over the lake, but this view was stunning as well. What a way to start the day.
Yellowstone is an indisputably unique place: it contains the highest concentration of active geysers in the world, sits atop a dormant supervolcano, and bears the scars of recent erruptions. West Thumb is in the center of the caldera, and this photo, pointing to the south, is directed toward the rim of the caldera. Farther south and a little west are the Teton Mountains.
The haze to the left of the photo is from a number of forrest fires that were burning to the north and east (near Fishing Bridge).
I accentuated the sharpness, saturation, and the blue coloration after taking the photo.
Please let me know what you think. Is this photo too busy? I like being able to see the white trunks of the pine trees on the step-like ridges moving off toward the mountains, the individual yellow wildflowers in the foreground, the lone pine to the right, and even the path that we took to arrive at the top of this hill in the lower left-hand corner. But I also feel that there might be too much going on in the photo.
