Photographer’s Note
to be on cloud nine - in a state of blissful happiness, that is - I need clouds, preferably like these on the northern slope of Mount Washburn in Yellowstone National Park. I hadn't had my "fix" of clouds for months now and was forced once again to dive into the dusty old files to dig out something that would help me survive these cloud-less months. needless to say, "nice clouds" was VERY high on my Christmas wish-list.
------------------
about the photo - our first day in the park, when nothing suggested that the next two days would bring snow, sub-0 (Celsius) temperature, wind and complete lack of sun. the cloud formations together with the patterns of forest on the slope of the mountain captured my attention, so here's the result.

Kristine,
This is a great landscape! The polarizer did a great job here binging out wonderful contrasts and deep color. The lighting is outstanding as is the sharpness and DOF. The clouds are wonderful and steal the show in this photo.

Kristine,
This should be called "Beautiful Cloud with Landscape" Anyway, the cloud is the main show for me here and off course the big open landscape is just as beautiful, but I like the cloud because they are constantly changing, and it can effect you composition in so many ways. I like the golden tone of hte hillside with deep pine green constrast very well the nicely illuminated clouds against the rich blue of the sky. What a fantastic show in the sky. Thanks Kristine
Happy 2009 to you Kristaps and your family.

Hi Kristine,
I'm glad you went back in your archive to dig this one out - a great shot and I too like clouds so my eye caught this one instantly as a thumbnail. Nice work and TFS. Gerald

Hi Kristine,
What you read is what you get, landscape with clouds it is indeed! But beautiful nonetheless. Classic but efficient, with a good sharpness. I like that.
Cheers,

AsI haven't said Happy New Year to you I do it know.
Happy new year to you and Kristaps.
Such lovely landscaping and i do understand your fascination for clouds ( AsI have a tendency to get stocked in them as well)
But I found the winter with it's really low light creating fantastic drama in the sky with clouds as main actor.
cheers Anders

Hi, Kristine, welcome back (it's been a while) and happy new year!
The clouds and the shadows on the land line up in a nice swoop that leads the eye to a point just at the mountain peak; that's nicely done. Good color and light management, too.
A shot barely four months old is "dusty?"
Best,
Dan

hello Kristine
We are having too much tropical rain clouds now [it rains everyday], perhaps some can be transferred to you by pp work :)
This sky is just perfect with the blue and white, especially the strong light bringing out the tone of whiter than white lining. Very nice capture of the landscape although I would like a brighter side of shade as my preference.
Happy 2009 to you and hope all the best goes to you this year.

Hello Kristine,
Excellent capture of the amazing cloud formations travelling in the deep blue sky like a Kodachrome tone. I like the clouds you have depicted very carefully with a three-dimensional feeling.

Hi Kristine. It’s one thing having clouds but another to put them to good use as you have here! Great photo. Nice contrasting colours and excellent details. Thanks for sharing.
Have a good week, Paul.

Hi Kristine,
an "explosion" of the scenery captured.
Below pathes of green, up there pathes of white, all spreading towards us like we are just about to be swallowed by them. And I don't mind if I do.
Wonderful photo that draws you, gives you a feeling of third dimension.
I remember when I was very young and visiting my father's aunt in Austria I had headphones in my ears, just standing in a field and watching clouds rushing by for hours. I stoped because my neck got sour. Your clouds just reminded me of that long forgotten memory.
Wish you lovely day,
Jeri

Hello Kristine,
A nice landscape (or better sky) shot to start 2009, and it is a photo of Yellowstones park, a dream land for me.
Looking to this landscape, it is difficult to think it could be under the snow 2 days after. In fact, it is the same here in Grenoble: sun yesterday, and snow falling this morning.
The pattern of clouds is really catching the look and the polarizer was well used to increase the feeling. For the land, I do not succeed to say if there is too much or not enough. It is always to case in this kind of stuff: matter of taste finally.
I wish you a happy photographic year :-)
Yves.

Oh, I just love these kind of shots, with the clouds floating by on a sunny day!
I know it's hard to find a good compo to show the beauty of the clouds, but you did a really good job!
cheers

Excellent capture, Kristine, with lovely clouds. Nice contrast to bring them out in all their glory! The landscape itself form an integral part of the composition and the majesty of the clouds only add to this.

Hi Kristine,
nice to see you back with your particular way for the landscapes. What I like most in here is the sky, it's simply gorgeous. There is a nice color contrasting between that part and the land in its warm tones. Details are superb, simple and effective one. I like it!

Your landscape view is fantastic with yellow fields in green forest. There is no words for gorgeously cloudy, blue sky while the splendid effect of wide angle adding next dimensions to your photo. Excellent, wonderful one with its amazing clarity and sharpness in natural colors. Congratulations.

Hi Kristine:
Don't you love the weather in Yellowstone? It can go from -2 C to 30 C in a matter of hours. This is a quintessential shot of Yellowstone, and what I think of when I think of that beautiful place. It's not the geysers and pools I think of (though they're quite beautiful)--it's the rolling hills, and the greenery, and the wide open skies. All you need is some wildlife here, and you'll have captured the beauty of this part of Wyoming perfectly. Great job.

Hi Kristine,
When I see clouds like this, I always want to take a picture. Unfortunately I'm often in places where a good anchor is lacking.
That's no problem here with the great patterns of light and shadow made by the riotously beautiful clouds.
Thanks for your comments on window; in Larry's case we already have a 40% chance of cure. Staying positive and no getting too frightened is the key, and comments like your help with that. Thank you.

Hi Kristine,
What amazing clouds form intricate patterns in the vivid blue high plains sky.
The colors are brilliantly clear in subper light that gives the hills a very flattering golden hue.
You and Kristaps must have had a trip to remember for many years.

Hello Kristine,
Henk Meijer quality here! :-)
A very nice natural feel to the whole composition with very punchy colours. The clouds give a nice wide feel to it all.
Nice!
Greetings, Dennis
