Photographer’s Note
This picture was taken in Yellowstone National Park, in the area of Mammoth Springs. It is a geothermal area, as many other places in Yellowstone, where sulphur and other minerals are present under the hot muddy water.
Evening thunderstorms are common in the area during summer, and the dark clouds (they can be incredibly dark sometimes) make some nice light effects.
If you visit Yellowstone Nnational Park, I suggest to take your time (several days) to visit all its parts, as there are so many different environments, which cannot appreciated in a short tour.
The picture is a scan from a Velvia 100, takend with a Nikon F70 and a Nikkor 18-35.

Hi Stefano, definitely a place to go, thanks for the post and the tips in your note... I like the light you had here, definitely the dark sky and those clouds provide a mood appropriate for the dead trees... it looks like a lake of salt with intriguing orange color on the side... congrats, Daniel

Stefano,
the dark clouds and the dead trees in the middle of the orangebrown soil gives a quite special mood to the whole image. I'm actually planning to go to YNP this Summer and appreciate a lot your short infos regarding some details.
Fantastic quality taking into account that you shot it with Velvia and had to go through scanning process.

Hello Stefano,
You have produced a superb shot in Yellowstone National Park along with a compelling note to encourage people to visit. Unhappily, in my four crossings of United States by car, I never got to visit Yellowstone, and once again you remind me what a mistake it was to miss it. The colors are astonishing.
Warm regards,
Bulent

Yellowstone National Park is so high on my "to go to" list that I should have been there yesterday :) and photos like this one make me especially eager to see with my own eyes this amazing place.
I think you have captured perfectly what makes Yellowstone so appealing - we feel we get a glimpse into the distant past when the Earth was just forming, and I find the dark sky compliments that illusion. superb colours and details too.
this is great shot, Stefano, my compliments.
best,
Kristine
