Kelly Warm Springs, a photo from Wyoming, West

Photographer's Note

Kelly Warm Springs can be found north of Jackson off the Gros Ventre Road within the Grand Teton National Park. The springs originate from a small limestone ridge. There is a river and pond and the only place in the world where Kendall dace are found. These fish grow to about two inches. Their habitat is the spring area and 984 feet of stream. The temperature that day was many degrees below freezing but the warm springs kept the water from freezing.

Hello Ann,
Your US journey gave you many opportunities for discreet and refined compositions, almost monochrome. The branches and twigs of this tree create a very fine pattern for which the grey sky provides a perfect background. The birds entered the composition at a suitable time, I guess you were waiting for them to reach a perfect spot. The smoke on the water is another fine detail.

Great shot you have gotten! Great white world!
I can perceive the coldness and severeness of European winter very well. A small brizzard makes good atmosphere. Nice comfortable sequare format framework and well composition as usual.

Hello Ann - The minimal colour palette is very attractive here and works well in the winter landscape. I particularly like the few yellow toned grasses in the FG and well captured fine detail in the tree. The mistiness of the scene is attractive but unfortunately the definition in the rising stream is lost against the sky. I expect this is not the case in the full size version which I would love to see. Take care and warm regards Rosemary

A very simple yet effective and striking composition, the solitary tree standing proudly amidst the snow covered land with clouds of water vapour rising behind it.

A beautiful take on the Kelly Springs. You again controlled the exposure very well under this difficult circumstances - water in its three + one states (liquid, vapour, frozen and dispersed) are clearly distinguisable. And this serves the compo with the narrative tension between the tree and the flock of birds very well.

This is a beautiful Winter image ' I adore the snow ' makes everything look like a fairytale... well that's my opinion.
I like the bare tree standing alone & the birds flying in just at the right time.

A geeky correction--The Kendall Dace (endangered fish) is not found at Kelly Warm Springs. It's found in Kendall Warm Springs, about 30 miles north of Pinedale.
