Photographer's Note
A complete change from my previous post that showed how nature can transform parts of the earth into a complex, primeval landscape. This image is still within the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem but to the Southern area called The Grand Teton National Park. Not far from Jackson Hole this fence stretched across the winter landscape. For those of you who prefer a more traditional landscape I have included a WS to show you the view in the other direction.

Hello Ann
This one is far much better than the conventionnal one in the WS! You played well with the lines within the frame, had a good exposition to have some matter in the white. It's minimalistic but so eye catching.
Goal achieved!

Ein schönes Beispiel für Minimalismus! Sehr gut, dass auf dem Schnee noch Zeichnung zu erkennen ist und nicht eine rein weiße Fläche entstanden ist.
Have a nice week!

Great, you posted the fence Ann! A fine minimal composition where each minute detail plays a major role. An inspired composition, I love the blue shadow. Regarding the WS image - beautiful with fine light and detail, you should have posted it as a stand alone. Take care Rosemary

Good Morning Ann,
I have to say, 'Well seen!'
This is such a minimalistic shot that many would not have noticed the possibilities. It has a pleasing, almost diagonal composition and still uses the rule of thirds. There is just enough tonal change in the b/g to provide a context.
Have a lovely day,
Bev :-)

A super image with great shadows. I have played around with this sort of idea as well here in Scotland, but I like the almost monochrome effect here.

Hello Ann,
This is a great example of one of my all time favorite areas; "minimalism". A great photographic eye is a must for such a striking shot. For this one I must say beauty of the simplicity. An amazing work, very well done. Thanks for sharing. Best wishes,

Hello Ann
Oh yes: this is it! I am always drawn to minimalist shots (though I seldom manage them myself!); I also like B/W incidentally, and though this is colour, it is almost monochromatic. A great graphic: love it!

bello l'effetto grafico ottenuto da questa staccionata sulla bianca neve.

Hello Ann
This reminds me of some minimalist etchings I saw in a German expressionist museum. And that's meant as a compliment! Pure form. The blue colour is strange and deserves to be highlighted (as it is here). Complete desaturation would be an alternative, but I like it as it is here.
Cheers

Hello Ann,
I think you have pointed out that you like minimalistic compositions and you certainly show us that very clearly with this photo. This is as simple as it could possibly get, but the three diagonals and the more irregular blue shadow are highly attractive.

Hi Ann,
An interesting note and a fine pair of contrasting photographs to accompany it.
Whilst I can fully appreciate the artistic merit in this picture and can see how it might very much appeal to many, I'm afraid it really doesn't "do it" for me. It is very well seen and well taken and technically it's perfect too. But I hope you won't take offence if I sit on the fence about this one.
Your workshop picture, however, is quite a different kettle of fish and that really does "do it" for me! Fabulous composition, gorgeous lighting and colours and impeccable detail and sharpness. I guess I'm just a boring old traditionalist.
So, bottom line: I can admire this one though not love it; your workshop picture I really love and can certainly admire too.
Fabulous!
Kind Regards,
John.

Hello Ann,
A very minimal composition. You have managed such a superb composition with only two colors. The white from the snow and brown from the fence. I like the way you have captured the obtuse and acute angles. The shadow is an additional interest.

Hello Ann,
I really like this. Its simplicity is pleasing.Nicely composed too with the diagonal line leading from the top left corner and then the V or rather two Vs. Its lines remind of one I took at a fruit farm in winter of the bare skeleton of a polytunnel against snow.
Must save to my group theme "graphically pleasing".

At last - made it back to your gallery... ( Thanks for your 2x attempts to critique one of mine recently. )
This I like, though you could have used your WS to good advantage for a separate post - its that good. That is though a bit like we might expect, all being experts after the BBC expose, but this..
This is AnnJackman all over, seeing something different, seeing the shot, and delivering, impeccably. Just enough contrast to see what there is to see in the snow, and perfect for the fence and its shadow. It might benefit from taking the BR fence to the corner, but knowing you, you probably tried that and thought better of it.
So thanks for an alternate view, keep 'em coming I say..
kind rgds

Hello Ann,
A fence and its long shadow on a sea of snow. This is a beautifully composed shot, perfectly exposed. The shadows is just long enough to add drama, and not distract. If they were much longer, the atmosphere created might have been vastly different, becoming the subject of the photo, but perhaps also very beautiful.
I do remember a day in the distant past, while driving across the country to undertake a post-doc at the University of California-Berkeley, when a friend and I arrived in Jackson Hole. The month was June, and it was late at night, and we parked in a National Park. In the morning, we woke up to the majestic Tetons... and their reflections in a glass-like lake.
Warm regards,
Bulent

Hello Ann,
I missed some of your shots and I noticed this one in the gallery, really attracted the look with its high readability and an unusual view of the Nature with straigh lines and their moving shadows.
Very good composition with the placement of the fences in the frame.

I like the open space and composition, because that
makes the picture extra wide (and calmness).
