Yellowstone Falls, Yellowstone National Park, Wyoming.

Image captured during the first snow storm of the season. As an aside, this is the first decent image of Yellowstone Falls that I have made and I have been returned to Yellowstone on a regular basis since 1973. Normally on a nice day there is so much contrast in the image that it is impossible to get an image without blown highlights. Also, I don't believe that this fall benefits from either a morning or evening setup.

Yellowstone National Park was the first NP designated in the late 19th-century after a hunting visit by President Theodore Roosevelt. The Yellowstone was thoroughly investigated by the miltary and the U.S. Geologic Suvery after the Civil War and was documented through paintings by Moran and photography by Willian Henry Jackson.

Bonjour John,
c'est grandiose et franchement impressionnant, le POV éloigné donne encore plus une idée de la taille du phénomène et du bruit qu'il doit engendrer.
Cadrage parfait.
Excellent travail.

Daniel.

John, excellent taken of this waterfall, the scene is perfect and the speed used was very well. I like the balance and the nature scene.
Thanks
Sergio

Whooah!
these falls put the UK falls in the shade. Your POV shows us the scale very well with the tiny trees for comparison and the huge amount of spray. I've found out that strong light is a no-no for successful waterfall shots.
Snow already? I'm still mourning summer's passing

Hi John
Although it is a classic view of the falls, but I am extremely pleased with your exposure settings and this almost winter scene.
Very good one and also nice to know that it is hot from the camera
thanks for the ride John
Cheers .... sarju

Serwus John !
You chose absolutely perfect perspective to show us the Falls with all wonderful area of The Park. I'm quite surpised by the presence of snow, but in this way the whole composition is even more interesting while the lower part still stays in autumnal tones. Excellent exposure John, excellent vertical format with tight framing. Stunning view with great depth and clarity. Be proud of it !
Be well,
Mat

A great image. I think it's great that the scenery changes right at the waterfall - it goes from winter to fall within a few feet. Very nicely done.

Brian

Hello John,
I checked out the Yellowstone Falls photo gallery and your photo stands out above the rest of the images, in my opinion. You really have a beautiful image with wonderful soft lighting and excellent composition. I am going to post a photo of this falls tommorrow from a different camera angle and completely different lighting. It is amazing how the various moods of Mother Nature can change throught the seasons. A superb landscape!
Stan

Hi John,
Great POV and composition. A beautiful photo.
Thanks,
Nic-n-Jen

John,
I have never been to the Yellowstone NP, but from all the shots that I saw at TE I recognize this composition as a classic. What is different to all the other is that you did the effort to get there in Winter. The snow and greyness gives a special atmosphere.
The image is a little bit to soft for my eyes, but as we already discussed this issue several times - it is a matter of taste.
Peter
