This is the rock Richard Dreyfuss modeled his mashed potatoes after and then climbed just in time to see the space ships land on the top of it in Close Encounters of the Third Kind. Without any climbing gear, climbing experience or climbing permit from the National Park Service, Dreyfuss had to rely on what was written in the movie script in order to reach the top of Devil's Tower.

indeed is a devil tower. This is a very beautiful composition and vertical frame with wonderful management of light and colors. Great dramatic sky and the dead tree looks great in this picture. Fantastic work. I love it.
All the best,

Hello Gregory - I like your considered and well executed composition very much. The light is particularly striking as it hits the bare branches of the tree. Excellent natural colour and a fascinating landscape. Warm regards Rosemary

The inclusion of the tree and rocks in the foreground add depth and interest for the scene. The sky is perfect adding a sense of mystery for the scene. The lighting and colors are great and the photo has outstanding sharpness and DOF. Seeing this place I can hear those five tones in my head, now they will be stuck there all day!!!!!!

This is one heck of a photograph, this rock is simply amazing and breathtaking. Wonderful photo coupled with a highly informative note. Excellent handling on the exposure, gives us nice, crisp ad fine details of the rock. I bet it was a very nice day, the gloominess of the sky with fantastic cloud formations as well as the beautiful warm lighting gives us a very dramatic mood. Great shot!
Have a great weekend,

What a strange mountain! The POV is very good with the rock and the tree on the foreground. The light is beautiful with the shadow on the mountain and the grey clouds.

I wanted to visit thus place when I visited Wyoming, but it implied a too long deviation from my itinerary.
Here you have a perfect sharp light, and the clouds add a touch of mystery to the place

I have just looked at your gallery - very nice work!
I love the drama in this one created by the dark sky and the dead tree - very 'close encounters' like. The quality of the image is excellent throughout.

Strangely now I realized that I haven’t seen much photo of this tower. All I can remember are the shots of the same from Steven Spielberg s movie. This is a stunning shot with the tree and that small stone structure in the foreground. The cloud casting a shadow over the towers is certainly worth noticing. Lovely POV and light control. Very well shot.

Perhaps Devil's Tower in Monument Valley is as spectacular as Kayenta on the road to Monument Valley. What a magnificent pair of photos to hang in a Board Room of a large corporation. I've never selected two photos by the same photographer to "hang" among my favorites, as I am doing now. With a dramatic sky, clear, crisp air, and brilliant late-afternoon sun, this is the best image I've seen of Devil's Tower... ever.

Wonderful use of light and shade and a well chosen POV so that we have three points of reference, culminating in the distant rock.Looks like a nuclear reactor of some sort. Regards. Klaudio.

That natural tower has filled my childhood memories since I had it in one of my geography books!!!! And, of course, the movie you mentioned here has made me more anxious to maybe one day visit it!!! Well, for a while, I content myself by only seeing this beautiful picture of yours!
TFS - congrats,
