Photographer’s Note
I spotted this big fellow just off the road, and decided this was as close as I cared to get. He was not at all intimidated by our presence, and rightly so as we were in his domain....Just more of the beauty of Yellowstone....Ticino

Hello Jim,
A beautiful bull elk that you have here. He is nicely framed by the trees. One suggestion though. Trek Earth members are picky about composition and I don't think anyone would think less of this photo if you used some "artistic license" and cloned out the branch in the foreground covering the front of his head. I feel that this would greatly improve this photo. A beautiful wildlife shot otherwise. I added my PS workshop to demonstrate this (the WS photo is a small res version. I haven't figured out yet how to repost a full res WS photo).

Hi Jim,
this animal is definetely no elk, but a stag.
But it's a nice capture.
Kind regards,
Roland

Jim, what a magnificant animal, nice shot, good presence of mind, I would have flubbed it and mad it out of focus or something. Nice capture.

An excellent photo, which shows the difference between elks and moose. Our Swedish älg, (alcus alcus in latin) is in fact a moose. (We have them everywhere, especially among the tulips in our gardens!)
This is obviously an elk, and expecially the mouth is very different from our Swedish älg. But the names are confusing.
