Photographer’s Note
Another shot from the Tall Ships Festival at Tacoma. Tacoma is on the west coast of Washington State, just south of Seattle. The Festival was held between 30th June and 4th July. We visited on the first day, the day of the parade, so we could see the ships arriving in port. The orange coloured ship here is the Lady Washington; its home port is Aberdeen, Washington. It has been used by Hollywood several times, including starring in Pirates of the Caribbean.
I tried several shots trying to include the helicopter, as I liked the contrast between the two types of transport; air vs. sea and old vs. modern. This version I think is the best, but I would have preferred some separation. I have posted another one to WS so you can tell me which version you prefer.
PP some cropping (not as much as yesterday) curves and reduction of blue in colour balance

Great idea for a photo, showing the contrasts between the types of transport!
To be honest I like the WS better sor the simple fact the helecopter is not directly in front of the ship. I think it balances out better that way.
I think it was a good idea to go to see the ships coming in because there is little that is more impressive than a tall ship with the sails up.
Well taken : )

Great capture, Kath! The helicopter hovering low is a great contrast to the old ships. This one has much less noise than your yesterday's post. Great job!

hi kath, first off i have to say i prefer the workshop picture, but they both have the same qualities, good lighting, colours and a very nice sky, maybe the perfect solution to this shot would be with the helicopter further towards the boats than in the workshop, but i imagine that it was hard to take the two shots after each other, and somewhere in the middle you lost that chance! well done though this is a nice picture

Kath this photo is very attractive. No need to mention lack of detail in this one. I love how you arranged the helecoptor in the frame as well. Thanks for posting this one. Nice work.

Hi Kath,
A well composed scene rendered with good clarity and colour. Between the two shots, I prefer this one, as the copter is a little too far out in the WS to provide the right balance. In this scene the copter enhances as if its a gigantic humming bird hanging over the sailboat. The POV is great, and I like the contrast between the dark blue water and soft blue sky. Great capture.

Hi Kath
nice idea for this photo. Also I like the contrasting transport of different ages. The composition and colours are also nice. I preffer the WS photo, but this is just my opinion.

Very good composition indeed. You managed to mix modernity with ancient boats and ships here. Very good perspective and colours.
Very well done!

Hi Kath,
Very interesting mix indeed.
I prefer the WS, because we see better the different elements.
It recalls me my shot Approaching Baia das Gatas. But mine has a humbler fishing boat and a military helicopter.
Greetings,
F
