Photographer’s Note
"Now for something completely different"; from me anyway.
This is the first ship to arrive at the Tacoma Tall Ships Festival. It was a 5 day event and we decided to go to the opening ceremony to see the ships actually sailing into port. There was a Parade of Sail and this first ship was the R. Tucker Thompson, a schooner from Whageri, New Zealand; it had the honour of being the first ship as it had travelled the furthest. Canoes from the Puyallup Tribe of Native Americans set out to welcome the ships. I like that this shows early sea transport from vastly different cultures.
I wish I had my 300mm lens with me as this photo is heavily cropped; I still had to downsize it for TE, so I hope it hasn't lost too much clarity.
PP:- cropped, and after minor curves tweaking, I thought it looked too blue, so I adjusted the colour balance slightly.

I like the composition with the canoes and the modern ships. It represents the past and the future in the sea. Congratulations!

Linda foto e composição, belas cores e contraste, o único probleminha é que a foto esta muito granulada. Mais no geral esta boa...
Parabéns...
Obrigado pela visita.

Hallo Kath
I like this blue mood. The big ship is fantastic and well placed to catch the eye, but I'd preffer it without other boats, but I know that this is quite imposible. Also the sky is beautiful with its blue tones.

Well I agree that you needed a longer lens on this. I tried using photoshop CS2's smart sharpen and noise reducer and was going to post to workshop but the icon allowing me was not there. Perhaps you would like to see it. Let me know. Thanks. Just enter edit and change to allow workshop. Thanks for posting. Paul

hi kath, yes its a bi grainy and pixelated in places, but you have given the reasons for this and i think you have got the best result you could, your crop to gain a good composition has worked very well and the inclusion of the canoes was well intended! well done nice shot!
